He was against greed and using G*d like these charlatans. He didn’t tell regular people to give it all up, just greedy people, because they worshipped money, which is idolatry, adultery against the their marriage covenant to the father. And that’s the issue.
Churches still have bills to pay. Just because they are exempt from some taxes doesn’t mean they are bills exempt.
