Are you sure it’s not just… a bunch of aunts?
This comic makes no sense and presents no joke. It’s just a drawing and some words that convey a meaningless scenario that makes no attempt at word play or observation.
Now if the caption was like “Frank was displeased to discover some Nag-weed growing in his garden” that would be a (very lame) joke but as it is now it’s just complete trash.
It’s a word play on “invasive”
Invasive plants are undesirable plants that can take over your garden, and someone who asks overly personal questions is also being invasive.
It’s a great pun if you know that, sadly I’ve also never heard it used that way
I would say the person was being nosy or intrusive, I’d never say invasive as that conjures up something more physical. In my usage of the language, at least. You can invade somebody’s personal space, I suppose. You can have an invasive procedure. Intrusive thoughts or enquiries. Invasive weeds or surgery… perhaps even relatives if they move into your house and won’t leave!
While I agree that the joke is not very good, invasive plants are a thing and prying uncomfortably into a stranger’s personal life is considered invasive, so it definitely has some sense.
This was the intended joke. But when was the last time you called a person invasive? Maybe it’s a dialect thing, but I’ve never heard that used about a person. Nosy, nagging, annoying, that’s what I use.
I’ve definitely heard “invasive” used to describe people quite often. It’s not usually the first word people will pick, but it’s not uncommon.
But on a related note, what’s up with Lemmy (and previously Reddit) insisting that just because they didn’t get a joke means it’s not funny/poorly written? You’re allowed to just not understand jokes sometimes. You can’t explain away why something is objectively not funny any more than you can objectively explain why a joke is funny.Yeah, that’s a thing. I’ve noticed people here tend to have a “I didn’t like it so it’s wrong” attitude, instead of a “I didn’t like it so maybe it’s not for me” attitude.
I hear it all the time. If someone asks a question that’s over the line, it’s too invasive.
How about invasive thoughts?
Ooh, that’s an even better interpretation. I like that one
Intrusive thoughts?
Ohh that’s the word…
Guess the grass blades screaming in pain every weekend werent worth it
