Scroll down to the bottom of both instances’ home pages using the default lemmy UI. You’ll see the version of lemmy they use. You’ll also see a link labeled as Legal, which contains most of the instance’s policies. The Instances link will show you what instances they are federated and defederated with. The modlog can also give you some insight on what’s happening on the instance. Combine that with all the other information on their sidebars and you’ll get a rough idea of how different they are managed.
It also helps if you’ve been on lemmy for a while because you would’ve directly experienced or witnessed any issues or controversies those instances have been involved with.
For .ee users still deciding on an instance to jump to, I chose .zip because it’s managed similarly:
- Similar defederation policy
- Runs the latest version of lemmy
- Defederated from Threads
Others moved to piefed.social.
Talk about over exaggeration lol. Lemm.ee was fine and well run, I enjoyed it more than being on .world. They just didn’t have enough people willing to be admins.
I think it’s simply because more people use mastodon and lemmy, so there’s more incentive to work on them, and there are a lot more contributors to development.

scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When do you finally calm down after buying a house?English4·2 days agoJust got past 1 year ownership of a new build and had the 1-year warranty inspection done and worked with the builder to do the repairs. I think it has only started to calm down now, as we’ve finally experienced one year of living in the house and we now know what to expect throughout the year. Except for emergencies and major unexpected issues of course.
I would definitely jam in a band with three of my other selves. We’ll be able to make music pretty quickly because we literally have the same minds.

scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities or instances do you have blocked to make your Lemmy experience more enjoyable?58·3 days agoI don’t have any. I instead subscribe to as many communities I find interesting and set my feed to only my subscriptions. I rarely venture out to All and only do when I want to discover more communities.
I use a thick pillow to hug and a folded blanket for my head. The blanket’s thickness can be customized to fit. The real problem is in hotels were both pillows are usually huge, so it’s literally a pain in the neck.
scytale@lemmy.zipto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What is twingyeo.kr? Why can’t I go on the site?English8·4 days agoFound this: https://github.com/sponsors/twingyeo-kr.
A quick translation says:
Hello, twingyeo.kr is a Mastodon instance operated by Team Onstables Co., Ltd. Currently, in order to create a ‘space where everyone can rest comfortably’, our instance is covering all operating costs with the income from the software development sector of Team Unstablers Co., Ltd., the main operator, without any means of generating profits such as advertising.
Maybe the instance is down that’s why it’s unreachable.

That’s the beauty of decentralization. If a billionaire somehow wants to buy a lemmy instance (unlikely), and the instance owners agree (unlikely), users will just switch to a different instance and other instances will just defederate from it (likely).
My wife says cream cheese and fruit jams/preserves.
A cozy EP, one that you can usually hear in jazz, fusion, and r&b.
An 8-string guitar with a clear heavy djent tone, like Meshuggah, Tesseract, and Animals As Leaders.
Ask him first why he didn’t like it. You can’t convince him otherwise if you don’t know why it doesn’t interest him.
Aloha Burger! It’s good.
