On Linux or Windows? Firefox + uBlock origin (there’s nothing better than that)
On Mac? Firefox + uBlock origin (worse alternative: Safari + AdGuard, since you might synch browser with iPhone)
On Android? Firefox + Privacy Badger + uBlock Origin
On iOS? Safari + AdGuard + Vinegar + Baking Soda
On SmartTV it’s different.
Hardest overall solution that even works on PS5, Switch and other consoles: Get yourself a Pi-Hole https://pi-hole.net/
For WebOS TVs use this: https://github.com/webosbrew/youtube-webos
Android TVs should get SmartTube: https://github.com/yuliskov/smarttube#smarttube-old-name-smarttubenext
RokuTVs got either this thing: https://channelstore.roku.com/en-ca/details/840aec36f51bfe6d96cf6db9055a372a/playlet or the open source alternative: https://github.com/iBicha/playlet
on android Mull instead of firefox.
You can also set up this link for your DNS without having to use a VPN: adblock.dns.mullvad.net
I use this dns.adguard-dns.com as a private DNS provider for my Samsung phone which basically blocks everything for me. Even apps. As for YouTube, I use revanced so I basically never see ads on my phone at all
Just replied to another comment, but another option is Mullvad’s: adblock.dns.mullvad.net
Has someone tried the whole ad guard solution? Their marketing brochure looks nice, but does it work on mobile +YouTube? Woula pi hole at home be better?
PiHole unfortunately doesn’t work against YouTube ads - at least it never worked for me. It’s good for everything else tho. You would have to use ublock origin on desktop and an alternative YouTube client (like newpipe or grayjay) on mobile
Ad Guard and PiHole won’t block youtube ads because they’re DNS based and youtube ads come from the same DNS as the videos do. I bought a lifetime AdGuard subscription and put it on all our devices and it works well everywhere except Youtube. For that I just use Firefox and UBlock origin to watch videos on my phone and PC. I’ve never been a fan of watching YT on my TV or anything so this works fine for me.
You can use ublock on orion browser on ios
I use this as well, works great
I use “Self Destructing Cookies” in addition to uBlock, so I can be relatively generous with exceptions as I know cookies will be deleted when I close the browser or after a defined period anyway.
Your Android suggestion will only block ads in your browser. Something like AdGuard or PiHole will also block them everywhere else on the device.
DuckDuckGo has an app which can block trackers system-wide on Android
