I mean aside from that, since the fork is based on the original. I already use it, but people are fearing that it, too, will follow soon.
Maybe I’m out of the loop but, follow what soon? Did something happen to Syncthing?
Clarification: syncthing was not discontinued, only the (3rd party) most popular android app for it was.
Unlikely. The maintainer was pushing updates more frequently and sooner than the original app. it’ll be fine
Otherwise, look into cryptomator. A completely different approach, it makes use of your existing cloud storage accounts, but at least more private then using those directly. It probably requires internet access all the time a file is accessed, though, but check the docs to be sure.
I use Cryptomator on desktop and Android and while I think it is a slightly different use case than syncthing, it can probably cover a lot of similar uses. And yeah, on Android you don’t actually have a local copy of all your stuff, you can just upload, download, or edit text files.
