The US has basically been running on the hopes that any president elected would be sane/smart enough to not abuse every stupid decision made by his predecessors. Guess what idiots? Making stupid decisions has stupid consequences, and the fondling father is speed running them before he croaks in a few months.

Prime example of why you should never write/sign a law that your enemies can abuse. Obviously there will always be unforeseen consequences of some laws, unexpected exploits, but if you didn’t realize Republicans could use indefinite detention against their political enemies you have no fucking business making or signing laws.

Sure, if you assume their “political enemies” are the Republicans. Rather than assume incompetence; because, you’re right, this is a pretty glaring oversight that only bumbling incompetence could begin to explain away; you could make a much more fitting assessment with the “political enemy” being the working class.

That is who this law is being wielded against, the only ones who were ever threatened by it, along with being completely disempowered to abuse it against the ruling class who passed it. Those are the enemies that fit your description.

ndaa of 2012. i remember, thats what allowed for this. obummer tacked it on to military spending so there would be no way to shoot it down. funnily enough that was the beginning of my, and i assume, a lot of people’s radicalization process. seeing the democrats, “the good guys” pull this shit then try to explain it away by being like “but we’re not gonna do it lol”. it was just too blatant. sadly too many liberals did not go through that same realization and they still think this worthless pig is “the best president in history”. he may well be, i couldnt say, but its not like he had much competition on that front. they all seem to be in a “who can be the worst president” contest if anything

One hand washes the other. Dems build a legal framework, repubs exceed it in scope and cruelty, next dems codify those excesses into law to keep intact the precedent of not prosecuting past administration’s war crimes

Oh Honey, do you really think it matters if he “has the power” to do it or not?
