Today’s game is Mario Kart 64. It was a long day today so i decided to kick back and just take it easy. So, this was my first choice. I did the Mushroom Cup mainly today. It was feeling like a Train kind of mood, you know? Sometimes all we need to really make a good day is a train.
I got first place in all of them. I did mess up a little on the first cup because i kept accidentally hitting Print Screen instead of F12 to take a screenshot and that would freeze up my entire thing, but i adapted quickly and caught up in first place by the second lap.
On Koopa Troopa beach i kept accidentally drowning Toad while trying to get screenshots though. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lost a few brain cells from being deprived of oxygen. Sorry Toad.
While playing through this i realized the version in World is vastly different, i don’t know if it’s a bad kind of different or just a different kind of different. But it was something i noticed. I suppose if i didn’t notice it’s just different different, but who knows.
Anyways, i did the entire cup and came in first. Overall, relaxing way to spend my evening. It’s fun to kick back and relax with a game that is very basic and fundamental like this. It’s very low stress. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to try new ways to kill some time for the evening.
Aww man I used to have so much fun playing split screen on this. Simple chaotic fun with your friends
All my friends are big MK8 fans so when I try to get them to play this with me while split screen they all look at me like I handed them a dead rat.
Still enjoy playing with them though lol
Each of these entries has a reason to play them. Sure mk8 might look better but there’s still lots of fun to be had in the older titles. I’ll always have a soft spot for double dash and mkds
I always love revisiting the other entries. It’s nice to mix things up everyonce and while. I don’t think i’ve done a screenshot for it but i mess around with friends a lot in MK7 too
The online on mk7 was so broken at launch, everyone used that glitch to skip half the map on that Wii sports resort map😭
Damn. I wasn’t there for launch but that about sounds like a Mario Kart glitch. I remember when I first found out about Wii’s super shortcuts. That shits crazy
Yeah you ever watched summoning salt? Mk Wii speed runs look insane!
I have actually! His 0 Star Super Mario 64 video is one of my favorites. It motivated me to try and speedrun the game for like a week before throwing in the towel lol
I can nostalgically hear the sounds of the game while looking at these pictures. “Here we go!”
Every once and a while the opening 10 seconds will pop in my head including the Gold Nintendo logo spinning
wowww. this is so nostalgic. fantastic game. thank you for sharing. i always look forward to your posts.
There’s a part of me that would be tempted to buy a Nintendo 64 if I ever found one, just for the authentic experience with Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and a few others.
The classic tracks usually vary some in newer versions of Mario Kart. Typically I’d say it doesn’t make a difference, mostly cosmetic, but sometimes it’s significant. SNES Rainbow Road is one I’d say is dramatically easier in the remakes, and I’ve seen comparisons showing wholesale changes on others to the extent they’re hardly even the same track. It mostly seems to impact the SNES and GBA tracks, though. Not as many real differences in tracks that were already 3D models.
I was going to just share this, but it is also out of stock. Though, at least there is hope of it being available in future.
I’ve certainly considered it just for the upgraded image/TV compatibility and I think the price is reasonable, but their products always seem out of stock and I would assume the original devices are still less-expensive, though less compatible with current TVs
Unless you are planning to use a CRT TV, I would suggest looking for the Mario Kart 64 PC port
I got lucky and got a hand me down 64 from family. It really is the best way to play these games imo. Everything just makes sense with the controller compared too emulating it and playing with a traditional bluetooth gamepad. Though, irc they released a N64 gamepad controller for the switch, if that can be paired to PC i could totally see that being better. Though, all that really matters is that everyone is having fun playing it.
Man, games used to be fun and include just simple joys written by a small cadre of competent developers. I think Mario 64 was written by devs that had never written a game before? Maybe that was Goldeneye
It sounds familiar for a 64 game. I’m not sure though. It certainly is fascinating though seeing these games made by small teams for older consoles paired up against something from the same studios today
