Video essayist James Somerton was among several people Harris Brewis, known as “hbomberguy” on YouTube, called out in a viral video.

Video essays have always struck me as pseudointellectual crap 90% of the time. With a few exceptions, it’s clear that the creator has no background in academic writing/presentation and they almost always end up talking in circles, phrasing their message in different ways and never really advancing their argument.

YouTube isn’t a school or journalism. I fully expect plagiarism. It’s all very low quality content.

It’s a platform that absolutely can contain both of those. And bc you consider it “low quality content” doesn’t excuse stealing from others.

If you didn’t watch the hbomberguy video, then you do not expect so much of the rigorous devotion to plagiarism that it documents. Unless you’re some kind of evil genius, I guess.

Maybe the videos you watch are low quality, that’s entirely on you though.
