I hope I can inspire some people. I got inspired by “Debian-Z” on GitHub.
- Window Manager: i3 (Cinnamon as failsafe)
- Polybar
- Picom (compositor for blur and stuff)
- Terminal: Ghostty
- Music Player: MPD + RMPC
- File Managers: Yazi + Double Commander
- Rofi (Launcher + Bookmark Menu)
- Bookmark backend: Buku + custom bash script
Mint + I3 is quite the unique setup. Just out of curiosity: How does it perform? And was there a specific reason to choose Mint?
It looks very pretty btw
Well, I used mint the longest due to its stability. So I jus t start to experiment with that. If it ain’t broken (yet), don’t fix it.
I keep looking for alternatives tho, maybe I should give Fedora a try in the near future?
Performance wise mint is pretty good, the only issue I currently have is Double Commander. It doesn’t like to be opened in full screen. Otherwise everything else works great. I hope to use Wayland in the future though.

Why not go for the ancestor and try debian itself? (Edit : ancestor of mint. Deb is not the ancestor of Fedora)
I see :) Fedora is a pretty solid choice. But if you don’t mind a suggestion, I think arch could fit your needs as a tinkerer!
With the last upgrade, I didn’t touch it for 2+ months till today outside of remoting to it via RustDesk to add content to my jellyfin server.
It’s stable, and it works. I set up a reverse proxy on it, and it runs my file server and such. It has 4gb of ram in it and runs without hiccup for me. On my usual laptop, I use Lutris to run Windows games like The Sims, Stardew Valley, and such, and everything runs fine. Low maintenance, familiar GUI if you are used to things like Windows 7, and overall no regrets.
Also, the software manager is decent compared to Pop OS! which I didn’t care for its
My producer, Neigsendoig, used Mint with i3 for a while. Fantastic setup, honestly.
