Which instance did you switch to? Have you considered PieFed? Could you bring your communities with you? Do you miss it?

And the others, do you miss lemm.ee communities that died out where you couldn’t find a replacement for?

I ended up on .zip, the switch was mostly painless, just a couple small tech issues and having to get rid of a default block. I didn’t have any communities I managed, so not really applicable. I did consider Piefed, but I’m satisfied with Lemmy and Jerboa, and many accounts I see from piefed are superusers I don’t vibe with so it hasn’t drawn me. I would say the switch was pretty seemless and I didn’t grow super attached to lemm.ee because it wasn’t my first instance to shut down.

I ended up switching to a number of instances. The account I’m on right now is lemmy.today, which claims to be financially stable with good uptime. But my main account is on piefed.social.

I can’t say I’ve missed the old lemm.ee communities, although I do regret that all the images I uploaded were deleted, I thought they’d somehow be spared by the other instances. I use external image hosts now.

Couple questions that I hope you feel inclined to share:

      1. What makes you (and others I guess) prefer Piefed?
      2. What external image hosts do you prefer?

      🙂

Switched to Piefed for the crosspost comments consolidation, multi communities, keyword filters.

I also had almost forgotten about Lemm.ee shutdown, so that’s probably a good sign.

Crosspost comments are great. It’s so much more convenient.

I like the community groups and tags, too. That’s a great feature when you want to look up something.

I diversified and wound up making a bunch of accounts. If I am being honest, I forgot about the whole .ee transition until this post, so I guess all in all pretty well.

It sucks that I ended up losing most of a series of gaming progress image posts I was doing, in a particular community. I got all the images re-uploaded to my new home, and edited all the original posts, but quite a lot of those edits never got federated properly, so now the posts just have dead image links.

    Been pretty great, otherwise.

Hey, I know you! I really like your posts! I don’t comment very often in them (though I should, because you play some banger games), but they always make me smile.

Was on lemm.ee. I do miss it, I think it was a really cool instance, for no particular reason. I tried lemmy.zip, and have an alt there, but my home now is PieFed. The developers here are incredible, and I love the look and feel of it better than any Lemmy instance I’ve tried.

I wasn’t moderating any communities at the time I switched, so my transition as an end user was pretty painless.

Switched a bit before it shut down. Lemme.ee felt like the best fit on lemmy for me. It was well run and the devs were mostly neutral on lemmy disputes and controversies. It was exactly what I think a general use instance should be. I’m happy on fedia. It’s run in a similar way and the devs communicate with the users well and were responsive when I had an problem. I actually like fedia a little better just because I like kbin/mbin better.

I’m a little concerned for fedia though. When I came from reddit I started with kbin.social then I went to lemm.ee now I’m on fedia. I hope the curse has run it’s course.

I swapped over to lemmy.today when ee went down because I wanted to keep using voyager on my phone, only problem is that the servers are in the US and I’m trying to connect from Europe so it takes a while to load. I have a piefed alt but I don’t use it much.
