Personally, I think it was a pile of shit. I remember the TV show tie-in being promoted endlessly on Nickelodeon and nothing felt more forced. It really boggles my mind how such a piece of crap could get the go ahead from so many others. Is it money laundering? Some rich kids with connections needed an excuse to justify wasting their time and money on “creative” degrees while lacking any talent whatsoever?
Are you talking about “Tak and the Power of Juju”? I only know Tak as a boardgame from the Kingkiller Chronicle, which didn’t match your complaints :D
I still need to build my board and games pieces…
I remember playing the game once and found it intensely mediocre.
It came out when I was a kid, and the humor was a big hit for me.
I actually replayed the first two games last year on PCSX2, and imo they actually hold up. Maybe some of the humor hasn’t aged particularly well, but none of it is really offensive or anything. It’s basically a village of jungle natives all acting and behaving kinda like modern white people (also voiced by white people, but eh. It was like 2002-2005).
As far as gameplay, it’s alright. I think the first is better as it has more going on for it. The sequel definitely feels cheaper by comparison. I remember playing the “third” one (*Great Juju Challenge) but that one is basically just a Mario Party knockoff.
ETA: also the show first aired actual years after the games had even released. I remember thinking it was weird that they waited so long to make it into a show, and that the games’ popularity wasn’t as strong anymore (or perhaps never was).
Never touched it or even wanted to, but I’ve heard it was seriously mismanaged with nobody in charge, while at the same time it received massive funding because nickelodeon was desperate for a hit franchise.
