Back in the 80s, Rick Vietch had taken over writing duties from Alan Moore, and nearing the end of his run, had plotted out a story arc where Swamp Thing was sent through time.
#88 was scheduled to feature Swamp Thing as Christ’s Cross and it was instantly pulled from publication.
The other 3 issues of the storyline were canned, Veitch was replaced, and it was thought that story was lost forever…
DC has now completed the work and begins publishing it as either “Swamp Thing 1989 #1” or “Swamp Thing #88” depending on which cover you want.
