Hopefully my neighbors will rejoice as I no longer have to cut and drill steel.
My next goal is to find another junk trailer so I can get the wheels more centered and have better handling and keep the rear of the trailer from scraping when going up and down driveways.
Very nice! But caution: this is very nearly not-dull, which would be a rule violation /s
In all seriousness, is the idea to haul multiple bikes at once? I once considered a bike accessory that would allow me to hoist another bike behind mine, vertically, but that would only work for one bike. From the width of that trailer, it looks like two for-parts bikes could fit, right?
This iteration is built with what I had on hand so due to design it will only do 1 bike at a time.
I am planning in a later revision to put some money into it and get a bike hauler like what people attach to the tow hitch or roof top their car which will let me carry 2 bikes at a time
Excellent! Have you also considered posting to !imadethis@lemmy.zip ?
Let’s fucking goooooo…
If you put a simple vertical frame down the middle of it, you can put one bike on each side and even lock them with standard bike locks.
That’s a good idea.
I think even blocking the wheels and using ratchet straps at the front and back could be effective as well.
I need to ensure I find something that visually inspires confidence though as some of the bicycles I work on are $2000+
With regard to security, I really am not too concerned about that. My city does not have a bike theft problem (yet)
Most importantly however is that the trailer is not to be left un attended with a bicycle on it
Why not just ride the bike?
This is to pick up broken bicycles and get repaired bicycles back to their owners
it runs windows and failed a forced update
Then tell copilot to fix it /s
(I know, you’ll end up with just the backlight mounted on the front axel and the rest trashed)
A towbike, gotcha.
Is the base frame / axle made from one of those bike trailers for kids to ride in? I have one of those that isn’t getting any use and I thought it would be good for hauling random stuff if I needed to. But I hadn’t thought of using it as a frame to build a bigger one til now
Yes it is.
I love the little kid trailers because you can often also find them for free and they make a good base to start from
The only thing to keep in mind is that they are not made to haul over 75lbs
Not dull !! For it brings back memories of the early 80’s … I welded (read melted) a bike trailer for my two windsurf boards of which one was also my own build.
Nice! I have no welder…(not sure how responsible it would be to use one extensively on my driveway in suburbia though either)
So a tap and screws holds this all together
I think i’d spotweld the screw heads to make sure they won’t shake loose. I usually weld outdoors. (Very seldom in the garage.) This because of the fumes and also fire safety.
I generally add a bit of blue lactate to help that. At this stage though I haven’t done much to secure anything
blue lactate
Have not thought of that. I wonder if that’s strong enough with the heavy shaking of the trailer? …curious now about that … let us know…
This is so not dull brah
I want something like this to carry the family bikes. They’re expensive things though.
I love Wike trailers, but exactly. They are way to rich for my fun-employed ass :)
The DIY route is very rewarding though
This definitely won’t be used to steal bikes… After it is stolen from you.
