This just looks to me like a better use of space mathematically.
The weather also makes 1 picture more appealing than the other.
It’s like those informercials where the bad situation is shown in black and white, but the product in vibrant colors.
To be fair, the second picture was taken on a sunnier day 😅
Too bad this only happened because they expect FIFA traffic
We’ve been investing in biking infrastructure and public transit for ages. It has nothing to do with the World Cup. There’s one particular neighborhood that’s temporarily going car-free for the event and that is not related to the changes we’ve been making to our transit infrastructure.
I’m speaking strictly about this block. The bike path terminated a few blocks south until suddenly in the last month they were able to start and finish this final leg to Seattle Center in the final push for FIFA. Who knows if they ever would have completed that work that went undone for so long otherwise

Question: if I bank at Wells Fargo and I use a dropped-floor minivan with a side ramp because of my wheelchair, is there a place on this street where I can park and exit my vehicle? Could they not space the k-rails 32" apart or whatever, not enough for cars but for walker-frames and wheelchairs and mobility scooters? You could even use taller ones since people could walk between them instead of having to step over. Bicycles are great for those who can ride them but almost everyone will have a time in their life that they can’t.
I’m not from Seattle, but the clues tell me that this is 4th Avenue N. (OpenStreetMaps has the cycle track, Google Maps does not yet.) Probably you’d do the same thing as before the change: Use the parking lot that’s on the left side of the image. It appears that none of the angle-parking spots that were removed were van-accessible. Most notably, the aerial imagery shows that the 7-11 across the street has an accessible spot with space marked for van unloading.
Thank you! I figured someone would know what street it was. I do approve of Real Bike Lanes. And good point about the original spots. Now if I can just figure out where to cross from the lot to the sidewalk. I’m going to assume there’s a blue path somewhere out of frame
