The Norwegian wood stack is complete. I’ve just finished capping it. This is the 360° timelapse video of the construction.
Instead of making the top round and boring, I made is whimsically pointy instead, and I put a wood cube on top - no reason, aside from having a conversation starter in the backyard for when I invite people for a drink 🙂

The real question is how do you unstack it when you need to burn it? Do you go top to bottom? I assume you need it to cure for at least 1 year.
Nah. It’s pine and birch. That needs 6 months minimum - and it’s probably halfway there because it’s already spend 10 months on the ground, albeit unsplit.
I guess I’ll take it apart in reverse: remove the top and work my way down, like all wood stacks 🙂 But I have so much firewood now - because I had to fell some 15 trees last year - that it might not happen for a few years. If the wood starts rotting, I might sell it.
And in fact, I might sell it when it’s seasoned because I kind of enjoy splitting wood as a form of exercise, and I’m out of wood to split 🙂
Wood keeps you warm twice: once while cutting it and once while burning it.
It is kind of fun to split and stack wood as exercise and mindfulness practice. There’s something calming about the destructive and constructive nature of it and immediate results.
