I was told about this band today and a coworker showed me a youtube video of what they’re like.
My question is not a joke, but the existence of this band may be?
Help me understand? Wtf this is? Is this an attempt to troll the world that people have accepted as “rock music” so they kept going? Is this “real music” and I’m the idiot?

It feels like elevator music for people in the “Beavis and Butthead” universe.

WTF IS HAPPENING?! (And no I’m not just talking about their absolutely ludicrous appearance, I’m talking about the whole package. The music sounds like LSD fueled song intros looped together without ever reaching a chorus, ever.

Given that Sleep Token is very vocals-driven, maybe that’s what you’re missing in AdP. Vessel is a fantastic singer (one of the best in the game right now), but I’d say that he’s no better a guitar/bass player than Khn. As far as drums go, ii is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, but Klek is really solid and fits his role in AdP perfectly. Sleep Token is an amazing project, but even those guys might not appeal to you in a different format (since you like heavy music). Have you checked out any Blacklit Canopy? Did Vessel’s previous life as a coffeeshop folk singer appeal to you at all, or do you need the volume turned up to get what he’s doing? Inversely, have you checked out any La Poêsse? Maybe AdP just isn’t hard enough for you, and their previous project would appeal to you more.

Also…do you like electronic music? I’d say that AdP are kind of a mash-up between rock and techno (my call is that they’re a mix of Buckethead and Daft Punk, haha) and, if you don’t like techno, you might just not appreciate the way they arrange their songs.

I can’t “get” Blacklit Canopy or La Poesse either it seems. I don’t have the ears to compare any of these thing to President, Sleep Token, or even more ‘punk’ sounding grungy bands like Hot Water Music which I also like. Thanks for the effort/time though.

Well, considering the singer of Blacklit Canopy is Vessel, I’m surprised your ears didn’t instantly start comparing them to Sleep Token. Do you like Turnstile?

Getting better- their song light design started strong but faded for me with the repetition in the song. I don’t DISlike it but I wouldn’t race to buy an album yet. Interesting how we’re inching closer to what I like and further from all this stuff I think is weird.

              Hey! Yes I do!

See now what “line” did we just cross? This just became what my brain thinks of as music. It has a progression, takes you on a journey that’s more than a few inches deep.

So, i’m thinking you’re big into vocal melodies, strong chord progressions, and more traditional scales/time signatures (although Sleep Token have some complex ones). The fact that AdP doesn’t have a singer, uses microtones, toned down the heaviness, and play in odd time signatures are probably keeping you from sinking your teeth into them. You kind of have to imagine the lead guitar loops more like lead vocal lines to be able to see where they fit into the songs.
