New Star GP. I gave it to my son but ended up playing it way more than him as it’s a quite complex game for an arcade racer.
Still, I’m trying to find other games to divert him from Fortnite and Roblox 😅

While I agree that they aren’t likely to be on Lemmy, even outside of Lemmy, I’ve never met one of them.
I just know people who don’t know there is something else.
Still it’s good for me to have to use (a debloated version) Windows at work, as it allows me to still know how to deal with it.

I guess because no one is passionate about it. It’s just something people are using because it came with their computer.
Here people are almost only talking badly about it. It’s not a good product but I wonder if it’s as bad as people on Lemmy make it sound.
Still I don’t want to waste time away from Linux to discover it by myself.

Sounds crazy to me that people aren’t shutting down their computers when not using them. For me it’s like turning off the light off in a room you’re leaving. I can still hear the voice of my mum giving me a lecture about not wasting energy and I’m thankful for this.
It’s such a small gesture and it can already improve your carbon footprint a tiny bit.
The only exception is when I’m downloading a game or backing up my computer.

Oh thanks for the alt + F3 tip as it worked for OnlyOffice.
Now I just have to solve the issues with Evolution, so its keyring issue and the fact that it deletes the kWin rule every time.

What are the permissions you think I should change? In Fedora (Gnome) the same Flatpaks don’t show these issues with the default permissions.

While I understand the pain of someone having no hardware right now, I think you should still be able to get an old gaming PC or an old Playstation 4 to enjoy games for cheap.
In fact, almost everyone has something like this lying around…
While it means running old AAA or lower demanding current games, it’s still great gaming time.

You haven’t read my comment I guess.
I have a lot of games that I bought (mostly for max CHF 20.-, so max 25$), but they are only playing free live service games.

I have kids and I have a huge library of games on Playstation and PC. What are they playing?
Fortnite and Roblox instead, which they could play for free if they didn’t want to get cool skins. So, no, games aren’t as expensive for kids as they used to be, except if they waste a lot of money in predatory schemes in games where they could play for free and just 1-2 things to support the devs.

The price of new games isn’t a problem for me as they are still cheaper than what they were when I was a kid. In my country Switzerland, an expensive new game is stll less than CHF100.- when some Nes games were CHF120.- thirty years ago. Back in the Playstation 1 era games were around CHF89.- and now most Playstation 5 games are around CHF79.-.
And that’s not taking inflation into account!
Gaming is one of the few things which has become cheaper in my lifetime, especially now that I get a lot of old games on my Steam Deck and only racing sims on my Playstation 5.
For me the problem is that you can pay such an amount and still be subject to many popups begging for your money (microtransactions) or DRM’s (always online or others).
Or that, thanks to digital games, you’ll soon not be able to resell an expensive game that you didn’t enjoy enough to keep.
And also the fact that games aren’t really prettier than 10 years ago but that you still need better hardware to play them.
I think game companies really need to have a look at why their games are becoming so expensive, because I don’t think it’s because they are treating their employees better.

That was an interesting read, thanks!

Oh, thanks for the deep analyse.
I guess I might play these games one day then🤞

I played all of them until Double Agent.
I remember really enjoying the part where you were doing spy missions in your QG in double agent and the way you had an objective with your organisation and another one with your agency.
I don’t know why I never played the following ones, but now I don’t think I could enjoy certain political aspects of the story where the americans (the government, not the people) are the good guys…

Yes but most of the Steam Deck owners are probably not into games with really high requirements.
And, for those who are, it’s great to be able to play demanding games with cheap (for now) hardware.

Probably, but I guess we should boycott these and choose a model with our wallets.

The only good side is that devs will have to optimize and do more with less or focus less on graphics.

Yeah. It was easy for me to ditch Google for search, emails and pictures, but there isn’t enough content other than Linux related on Peertube for me.
As soon as I can find some good basketball, videogames and cars channel, I’ll start supporting them and ditch YouTube.
Clearly everyone is different as switching is what forced me to fully go into Linux and don’t look back. It’s the same with using Virtual Machines, I can’t fully immerse myself as not everything is configured the way it would if it was on bare metal (gestures for instances…).
I think my advice would be to fully switch if dual booting (two OS’s, or even more, on the same computer) isn’t an option or if you don’t have a second computer which can give you a solid experience (not talking about an early 2000 laptop which is gonna make you think that Linux is slow).
Also, about your Mac, I run a 2012 upgraded MacBook Pro as a secondary comptuer and it runs Fedora perfectly. Once every 1-2 year, there is a small problem with the broadcom wifi chip, but otherwise I haven’t encountered any issue.
In fact, I have less issues with it than on my main computer (a Surface Go 1 hooked to a big screen), but its smaller size is more practical to me.

I’m hoping the game will be released on GOG as I wouldn’t buy a game I’ve already owned on console on Steam since it wouldn’t be DRM free.
It’s a great game despite EA being behind it. I enjoyed the first one better, but I’m looking forward to the third installment.
