Secret Music 🎵 [they/them]
What secret music do I hear
Upon the drums of my ear
What great pleasure I feel
I come from nowhere and I shall return
Because of you people I will flee
I see my late identity burn

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Out of ten, how would you rate your ability to empathize with people with opposing viewpoints?English
2·1 day agoDepends on a few things, including the viewpoint in question.
And my patience at a particular time because I’m not 18 and just discovering the world anymore and a lot of shit is the same old shit, even if it’s had a ribbon tied around it.
Some things that I’m more or less out of patience with are bigotry, right wing conservative conformists and supremacists, and monotheism. But I’m open to discussing most other things.
I’d be more inclined to ‘meet in the middle’ politically if ‘politics’ were about say how taxes should be spent, and not about who should have more or less human rights than who.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How crucial do you think it is to understanding "pop culture" stuff, in terms of forming friendships? (As in: Knowledge in Popular Movies, TV Shows, Video Games, Books, Songs, Music, Anime, etc...)English
4·6 days agoI think that it can help you find your people. If it’s something really mainstream like Breaking Bad or whatever, you might as say “I like icecream”. But when it gets to slightly more niche stuff that isn’t hogging 90% of the online conversation or airtime on the radio, I think you’re more likely to find people with similar interests or views or personalities to you.

18·6 days agoWealth vs wages? Cars require a substantial amount to buy, and then a decent liveable paycheck that leaves you something to play with for fuel and upkeep. Public transport is something more affordable for wage slaves.

Comic Books@lemmy.world•DC Comics Punk Rock variant covers for January 2026English
2·7 days agoPunk’s been dead for a long time. The only two bands that you ever hear about these days making a socio-political splash of any note are Rage Against the Machine and Green Day, who had their peaks in the '90s and gatekeepers didn’t even consider Green Day to be punk. Millennials completely failed to take that baton from Gen X and instead gave the world podcasts and Pop Idols. Chappell Roan is more punk than anything that’s come out of the alternative scene in the last 20 years.
I 100% agree with what you saying but also I appreciate attempts to revive the punk spirit because society needs it more than ever. And at least it’s coming from DC Comics and not Apple or Amazon or some shit.

Not sure if that’s any better. I think I’m actually just gonna delete this post because I thought it was cute but this is just sad either way.
Oof I really hope not. These hairless type cats often have curly tails, I just thought this was extra curly. Now I’m thinking I should just delete the post…

Yeah, Bruce Wayne is an eccentric rich guy in a city full of eccentric rich people up to their own shenanigans. And depending on the timeline or continuity, he doesn’t even run his own company most of the time, so wouldn’t necessarily be in the public eye all the time.
For Clark Kent, I’ve always loved the idea of certain key figures in the Daily Planet figuring it out themselves but keeping it to themselves. In the new movie, I very much got the impression that Perry White and Jimmy Olsen know. And IMO, ever since Lois figured it out herself in My Adventures with Superman, that’s the way it always should be from now and the versions where Superman keeps the secret for years and years aren’t the same now.
For me, the ones where it gets difficult to justify their secret identities remaining intact for long are characters like Static or Spider-Man that still go to school and live with their parents / guardians, and regularly slip away during trouble to regularly rescue their friends and family as their superhero selves.
