The dumb part is certain people are now trying to bring up the cases of rape that did happen as some sort of gotcha to claim the NYT report was accurate (see the Reddit /r/news thread about the UN envoy statement right now).

The issue was her claim that sexual violence was an explicit part of Hamas’ strategy and goal on October 7th, which was completely unsubstantiated by her and the others involved. They, in fact, couldn’t find any evidence of the sort to back up the claim, but still reported the claim as accurate anyways.

Hamas is an evil terrorist group, but that doesn’t mean we should just open-faced accept pretty obvious propaganda and lies about them. The truth matters, especially in conflicts like this.

I mean, the most straightforward way that would have the best outcome is if all domestic abuse claims are treated as credible and investigated equally. The current issue with how domestic abuse victims that are men are treated, which itself is rather tied into the long-term stereotypically viewpoint on men that the bad parts of the MRA groups have perpetuated, is the idea that men can’t be abused, raped, or anything like that.

Changing that perception socially is the key to better treatment and outcomes being available, for organizations like what Silverman made to be taken seriously.

There’s a reason why a bunch of poor people in inland Florida, which would be becoming close to beach front property within the century, are being evicted and bought out by rich people and companies.

Convenience is paramount. It’s why the in-app purchases that are most likely to be bought in games by the most people (not counting whales) are ones that make the game experience more convenient, rather than just giving special currency.
