Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL porcupines eat brake linings.English
4·2 months agoGiven that they regularly eat the fuzz off of deer antlers* after they are shed, I am open to any odd dietary choices from porcupines.
*this odd porcupine factoid was of great amusement to one of our kids when they were of kindergarten age and liked to play the “guess what animal I am game.”

It’s so hard to keep track of shows when they’re only renewed after the season ends and the production timelines are so very long. That’s why it’s exciting to know that there’s a second show going into production and more in development.
Please do join in our weekly discussion threads on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (aka M:LOM). Our community is just getting going and it’s grey to welcome other enthusiasts.

2·2 months agoNot sure what specific canceled show you might be thinking of…
Monsterverse is specifically used for all the movies, comics, games, animated and live-action television made by Legendary (Pictures, Comics, Games, Television etc.) using licensed Toho Godzilla and other kaiju.
The Monsterverse continuity began with Godzilla (2014), then Kong: Skull Island and continued with several more cinematic features. At this point, with 12 years of releases, it is the second longest running continuity in the 70+ years of the Godzilla franchise, with the Showa era remaining the longest.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a partnership between Legendary Television and AppleTV, is viewed as a global success. Its second season is currently in weekly streaming release on AppleTV. It’s being very successful in attracting new fans and expanding the audience for Godzilla and other kaiju.
A second spinoff Monsterverse series focusing on Lee Shaw in a 1980s Cold War context has been greenlit by AppleTV and is starting production in June.
That said, while this community is featuring the Monsterverse continuity, we’re open to posts and discussions about all Toho, Toho licensed and related kaiju media.
Please feel welcome to post and comment about other eras and continuities.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•If you have ANY Canadian ancestor, you are likely a Canadian citizen as a result of recent changes in Canadian law
0·4 months agoThe law is The Citizenship Act with Lost Canadians amendments that came into force on December 15, 2025.
The 2023 Bjorkquist decision on Lost Canadians found the first generation limit on citizenship by descent violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Parliament passed amendments in bill C-3 in early December.
For persons born after December 15, 2025, their new amendments to the Act will require Canadians born outside Canada to meet a 1095 day presence requirement, but the C-3 amendments effectively do away with the first generation limit on citizenship by descent for persons born or adopted before it came into effect.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Last day for Star Trek Day sale on Steam (Sept 8-15)
1·2 years agoThe sale is supposed to last until the end of today September 15th. Usually, that would be until midnight Pacific time.
Suggest trying through the link on the officials Star Trek website to follow through to Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/sale/StarTrekDaySale
We picked up 3 copies of Resurgence the evening of the 14th from Canada.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Last day for Star Trek Day sale on Steam (Sept 8-15)
6·2 years agoWe’ve tried most of them over time.
Star Trek Resurgence has consistently excellent reviews. It’s about a 25 hour role play where the player makes choices for two different crew - a senior bridge officer and an NCO in engineering. It’s well done and one of our teens and I are enjoying it a lot. Great value for the sale price. My patience on this one was reinforced by its initial release being exclusive to Epic - but on Steam and on sale it’s worth it.
Bridge Crew is an older game. I have had it for a couple of years, and took advantage of the sale to pick up copies for each of our kids Steam accounts. One of them got really into it right away.
Timelines is also older. It held their interest for a bit in middle school but doesn’t seem to be one of the better tie-ins.
Star Trek Online is a long running massively multiplayer game that starts out free but then can cost a lot for in-game purchases. One of our teens is into it, and got fairly far without purchasing much, but the Steam sale is a good opportunity for them to buy things they’ve had on their wish list.
As a parent, I find these better than the endless number of Star Wars mods on Roblox that one of ours got into for a while.

This is fairly analogous to banks looking the other way at money laundering.
It points to the need for either more strict reporting and purchasing controls within the firm or more regulation.
Banks have tightened their internal policies to avoid more active government intervention to reduce money laundering.
Investors will get the analogy. A bank that let money laundering go unchecked and is facing scrutiny and a need to change protocols would see an adverse reaction from investors. No reason why Nvidia would not experience the same.
