And the evil bastards are cutting funding to mental health services when we need it the most…

Ah dude I completely feel your pain. I could have had a nice house and a nice life and now I’m stuck in a crappy home that is falling apart :(
I liked the idea of a privacy focused currency, but at the time it wasn’t accepted at any stores or really anywhere practical, so I didn’t feel the need to hold onto it. It was very much considered a novelty.
I hate myself so much for not saving it when I was buying it at $150 when it was new. I just thought it was a cool and niche privacy currency that you could buy drugs with, not something normies would go crazy over…

Technology@lemmy.world•Jensen Huang: Israel has become Nvidia’s second homeEnglish
3·5 days agoLisa Su, the CEO of AMD, is related to Jensen Huang; they are first cousins once removed. Hopefully she doesn’t closely follow Jensen’s beliefs, I just thought it was something worth mentioning.
I know it’s slower, less practical, or simply not possible, but I wish more emulators would let me use the original UI of the system that’s being emulated instead of booting straight into the game. PCSX2 is one that comes to mind, I can choose to boot into the bios and hear all those nostalgic PlayStation 2 sounds again!
I don’t think switch emulators have this feature :(
I was just about to ask how the hell anyone remembers or knows all these commands, thanks for the info! I am trying to learn Linux and get used to using the Terminal more often.
I don’t get cold much either. If the temps are subzero, I just heat myself up in my bigass jacket and heavy clothes inside my home with the heater going a little before I leave, and I’ll feel comfortable even in subzero temps for hours lol it’s not bad at all.
I just did this last night! I went on a short little walk while listening to music. I was thinking about how many people would judge me for it, but then I said to myself “who cares what they think I love winter”. I’m glad I am not alone! I just wear a heavy jacket and put on a pair of gloves. Didn’t feel cold at all. I was surprised.
However, subzero temps are still no joke. What I do in extreme temps is I put on all my heavy winter clothes and sit inside with it all on, as well as a heater going for a short period of time before I leave. When I start getting borderline hot is when I will start heading outside. I do this to be on the safe side, even though feeling hot in all those clothes inside sucks temporarily. It’ll help keep you even more warm out there and will keep your blood flowing to your extremities too. Your jacket will be less efficient if you don’t already have much warmth to trap under them to begin with, so be careful out there! It takes much longer to warm up even in the most biggest and best jacket if you only put it on after you were cold.
Same. I don’t get cold when wearing the appropriate clothes. This might sound weird and maybe it’s just me, but even when I do get cold, the goosebumps and tingles I get almost feel euphoric in a way. I like it. Not to the level of freezing to death obviously. I want winter to last forever. Why does the earth have to be heating up instead of cooling down with climate change… :(
Can’t relate, it’s the exact opposite for me lol
Yesss I freaking love winter too. I can take walks during the polar vortex and be absolutely fine because of my clothing. I recommend ear muffs. Although, I don’t even need ear muffs as I usually have my headset on for music, so it’s basically the same thing lol
I still get panicked about summer, or even the thought of tolerating that hell of a season. Mainly it’s because it has been a pain in the ASS to keep my house comfortably cold or to even have and maintain an air conditioner. It’s expensive, and if the heat gets over a certain threshold, swamp coolers and air conditioners become ineffective at a certain point. It’s legitimately scary. I don’t want to boil alive or die of heat stroke. One power outage in the summertime could mean you’re completely fucked. I wish more people treated summer and climate change as more of a threat to life.
Nah. I just enjoyed a walk in 10° weather with no worries at all. Didn’t feel cold or shivery at all. Why? I simply wore the right clothing… People should be allowed to enjoy winter anyways. I hate summer and heat, but I’m not going to crap on the people who love it despite the fact you actually can’t do anything practical to combat the heat when stepping outside on a 100F day. Aside from stripping naked, or being near an air conditioner, or I suppose, a swimming pool. Even those are limited options. Heat is stupidly easy to create and to come by as well. Coldness? Not so much.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•I support violence against ICE. Lemmy is already Reddit 2.0. (It's a 2-for-1).English
3·7 days agoCan you elaborate on Reddit 2.0? I can’t tell if that’s a good or a bad thing lol The last couple years that I’ve been Lemmy felt like the early days of Reddit. In others words, I love Lemmy.
Let’s just hope they have a bunch of seeds cryogenically frozen in a lab somewhere.

Technology@lemmy.world•Wine 11 runs Windows apps in Linux and macOS better than everEnglish
8·15 days agoI can’t speak for other programs, but for example, Photoshop runs under wine mostly. The issue is certain features like the content aware tool are locked behind the stupid Adobe Creative Cloud BS and is reported to have issues depending on which version you’re using and what tools you care about. IIRC, it’s mostly the newer AI tools that are affected so maybe linux users won’t care as much, but its still a downside worth noting nonetheless.
Most of the time when Adobe products are mentioned in this context, people will instead offer alternatives rather than telling you to run it under wine. It really depends on what programs professionals are using at their jobs though, and I imagine most will just use Windows on a separate work computer and not deal with the random issues with compatibility and troubleshooting. I think most wouldn’t want to risk losing important work related projects either. If its something more simple like Microsoft Word then you could probably get away with using it on linux though.
Isn’t the whole point of the verification checkmark is to make sure nobody impersonate well known people/organizations? I know Twitter eventually turned it into a whole cash grab subscription and ruined the concept, but on most other platforms it isn’t treated like some premium subscription and is just a means of knowing who is who.
Hard to save anything at all when a majority of it goes to bills/rent/mortgages ect…
This about sums up the world right now.

I think of it as a darker movie compared to many other family type movies at least. I can’t speak on how it is now that im older, but as a very young kid this movie made me cry. It was one of my earliest memories lol
Also I know this may sound weird, but I’m pretty sure this movie also influenced me to care and have feelings towards inanimate objects.
