I think the reason may be two-fold.

The first part, in the eyes of most older people, a man is not supposed to be emotional or give into their more “feminine” feelings. After reading a bit more it appears he social engineered away some of the limits AWS and Microsoft impose on new customers and just never paid his bills, regardless of how high the bills are.
