And that was the secondary effect of PSAs like the litter campaign. The underlying message was that we are all in this together, we have to live with each other, so lets try to clean up after ourselves because it benefits us all.
That message being burned in our brains at such a young age contributed to our sense of pride in America. Today, it’s just everyone for themselves.
Growing up in the 60s, we saw anti-littering commercials, called PSAs (Public Service Announcements),on TV every day. Ask any older American what they remember about those PSAs, and they will say “The crying Indian.”
Today, they never show those anymore, and i am seeing young people littering as a result. I was recently in a fast food lot, and saw a car pull in, a young guy about 20 get out, and throw a bunch old fast food trash into the bushes, then walk into the restaurant. He passed a trash can next to the door on his way in, where he could have tossed his trash, but he just tossed it in the bushes instead.
I collected up the trash, and set it on the hood of his fancy hot rod.
I’ve seen plenty of similar examples in the last few years, because young people dont see those PSAs telling them not to, and even their parents havent been educated to teach them.

BOTH of those movies have been on my list for a long time, and I’ve never seen either of them. My son is a cinephile and a massive Lynch fan. I’ll suggest this double-feature to him for the next time we have movie night. I’ll bet he’ll like that.
I just watched an interesting movie called “The World, The Flesh, and The Devil,” from 1959, starring Harry Belafonte. It is thought to be the first post-nuclear holocaust film, where Belafonte is trapped in a mine for a few days, and when he digs his way out, the entire world has been wiped out by a nuclear holocaust.
It’s not the greatest movie ever, with some occasional weak writing, and questionable acting, but it was still an entertaining watch just the same. One of those 6/10 movies that is somehow still compelling.

I always recommend the Alfred Hitchcock films from the 40s & 50s, but especially the color films from the 50s, and ESPECIALLY Rear Window, which is a prime example of a perfect movie. There us not a bad movie among them; in fact, every one of them is at least an 8, and many of them are genuine 10s, including:

Try living it. As an American citizen, I have never lived with such a high level of stress and anxiety in my entire life. I am a lifelong student of history (I have a degree in a branch of history), and I KNOW where the kind of government we have now leads, and there are NO positive outcomes for the majority of Americans. Frankly, I don’t think the potential outcomes will be good for the Sociopathic Oligarchs either, but they are too blinded by their sick obsession with greed and money to see it.
I don’t see us getting out of this without violence.
I watched Paradise on Hulu, and LOVED it. Really looking forward to season 2.
I started watching Deli Boys, and loved that, too. I could have easily binged the entire thing, but I had to go to bed. I have a business trip over the next couple of days, but when I get back, I’m finishing it.
Im tired of stuff piling up. We always see fun things on vacation and buy them as souvenirs, but a few weeks later, it’s just in the way. After a lot of years, you have boxes of old souvenirs.
So I take photos. However, I hardly ever look at them. Memories of fun with friends and family, and the warm feelings they bring, are still the best souvenirs.
