  • First-past-the-post voting systems inevitably trend to two-party systems over time. We see it play out in election models and we see it play out in real life.

    this claim is not falsifiable. it’s a tautology with no genuine predictive power. it’s not science, it is storytelling.

    whatever you say about discord, all i can hear is “you don’t own the data, you don’t control the servers, and the terms of service are subject to the whims of a for-profit corporation”

    no feature set, and no “community” built on such a platform can convince me it’s worth my time to use it for anything more than bare utility. for instance, sometimes my pokemon tournaments require i join a discord. i install the app for the course of the tournament.

    Voting is not about putting your support behind a candidate

    this is the bit that i found most objectionable. almost all the rhetoric around an election talks about support: financial, popular, or political.

    voting is definitely supporting a candidate, pretty much any way you slice it.
