Wow, $600? I think you should expect a lot better range out of that battery!! Rechargeable batteries don’t like getting near ends of their range. 40 to 85% charge is about right.
If the charger is cheesy or broken, it could be charging to 100% (or worse yet, not stopping) That would be bad, so you might replace the charger … making sure that the replacement is doing the right thing for you.
I just watched a video where a Chinese taxi (car) battery was taken out of service after 800,000 km. (Probably in a couple of years!) That battery pack would have A LOT more cells in it, so the strain on each cell would be less. They’re expensive, so the charger is probably very high-quality.

Technology@lemmy.world•People Would Rather Have Nuclear Power Plants In Their Area Than AI Data CentersEnglish
63·23 days agoPromises, promises. I haven’t heard of one that’s actually in commercial operation right now.
But, apples and oranges… it’s a bullshit choice. Power plants generate power, DC’s consume power.
If you going to generate power, why look beyond solar/wind and batteries? At a much lower price, and much faster build times, they too are ‘physically incapable of going into meltdown’, and are already in use worldwide, no wait time.
As far as DC’s go, they depend on very new technology (enjoying a trendy fad) which -will- get far less power-hungry than they are. Or else. (The grid’s not ready for them.)
The only people in a rush seem to be the people who invested in all the snake oil promises that LLM’s are real A.I. … which they aren’t.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those with lower-back issues, what's been the best work-chair for you?English
1·30 days agoA friend gave me this firm ‘Sacro-ease’ pad/cushion, it’s about an inch (2.5cm) thick on the bottom and 2 inches on the top. Move the bottom up or down for best relief. Use it on my old chair all day, helps a lot.

Technology@lemmy.world•ICANN is Accepting Suggestions for new TLDs (for $227k) - what would you pick?English
5·1 month agoI would again recommend that anyone doing online marketing and/or tracking be legally confined to the .COM TLD. Severe penalties for corporate abuse would include removal of all internet access. Less severe penalties might include a confiscation of double of all profits made outside of .COM during a deliberate infraction.
There would be no cost for any TLD’s outside of .COM; all regulation and legal costs to be paid-for by .COM - users.

Glad for you that has changed lately. Apple’s is the only (and most expensive) hardware I’ve ever had severe problems with … twice. (In between, that clone they killed worked great for 7 years.) Not buying it.

1·3 months agoWell yeah. But that’s to be expected in astronomy, they have to keep changing the model as they learn more and more. Who knew 40 years ago that stellar atmospheres could broaden radio-frequency lines?

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: The United States Has 10x More Serial Killers Than Any Other Country on EarthEnglish
4·3 months agoAn interesting point … but unless you can see the serial killers per capita, it’s distorted.
When it comes to (single) homocides, the picture shifts substantially, the Americas are still at the top but Africa runs a close second. The PDF linked below (UN Drugs & Crime charts) has a very good set of PER CAPITA graphs to show the distribution worldwide. Here US homicide rates are much lower than Mexico and northern South America.
https://www.unodc.org/documents/data-and-analysis/gsh/2023/Global_study_on_homicide_2023_web.pdf
Get near-enough to the north (or south) pole and mercury turns into a solid.
Which is a better thing than when some gets spilled on the floor because it spatters into a thousand droplets that you have to chase around the floor , can’t mop up , can’t vacuum up … and can vaporize more easily and poison you.

8·3 months agoHmmm. Maybe it turned into a tax haven … like neighboring state South Dakota, mome of Kristi Noem.
Or maybe it’s: no state income tax. Or a maximum property tax of 2% (city + county). No capital gains, estate, or gift taxes.
Or maybe the 77% Republicans. Or the death penalty.
