What I love about hippos is that they are too heavy to swim, they basically sink to the bottom where they walk and eat all the vegetation

Pixel Dungeon@lemmy.world•Maybe we should stop putting traps in red sentry roomEnglish
1·8 days agoWTF never encountered a trap in there, enemies yes but never traps. Makes sense to ask for their removal. Do you maybe have the trap trinket that increases their spawn rate?

1·9 days agoOk not a sketchy website. I was using the WiFi at my Company I work for, they were redirecting my traffic leading to the browser warning me of the invalid certificates.
On mobile data the link works. This is the first time I noticed it today, and after the second link from Google gave me a similar issue I knew something was fishy

In real life, I would have loved dogs tearing up Pavlov after reading what he actually did
Yeah not sure what Ukraine is doing there, clearly a troll. But not even the Soviet Union, China, US, UK all the other does not excuse them from their atrocities. They are all bad, it does not matter if a Communist or a Capitalist is oppressing you, oppression is oppression. Trying to excuse your oppression by referring to the other side does it too is not a valid argument. People deserve freedom not subjugation
I am not too clued up to say this or that, but Mental Outlaw on YouTube has been doing very good breakdown on loads of Linux stuff to noobs.
So I will link to this, https://youtu.be/3MwJbRq3-rM
I saw no one mention ZorinOS.
I personally love Mint, tried different distros but I keep crawling back to green Ubuntu
Living in South Africa, I had to reluctantly get a gun, hate it but after they shot my neighbours leg off through her daughter’s window I knew I had no choice because I had 3 other women living with me.
I will call it a successful gun ownership if I never have to use it, I really do not wish to be placed in that situation.
Having seen people be killed by firearms in front of me, the police’s apathy as they were giggling at me when they saw my red eyes and saying it’s what rural poor people do (I think it was their way of comforting me).
Some gun owners are reluctant owners, but really when you have as high a violent crime and murder rate as we do, you have to make a difficult choice.

17·2 months agoThe housing market crash, I believe was a lost opportunity. When the US government had to bail out banks, why did it not ask for those houses that went belly up. Could have started a social housing aid, here it could sell luxury homes to buy low cost housing to give to its most vulnerable citizens. It paid for those houses using people’s tax dollars, why not use it for the benefit of the people

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Finally a month that's relevant to me
7·3 months agoIn high school, in the late 2000s in South Africa, a TV crew came to our school and we were wondering why. So we were sitting in class and the presenter walked past the door talking to the camera and we heard her say, these kids do not know the danger they are in, for all these classrooms were made out of asbestos. Fun times

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•ICarly "IKiss" episode was an allegory about being a virgin
4·3 months agoI think you are reading way too much into it, I was mocked for never kissing kissing someone when I was that age. Kids can be cruel, and I think this episode is just surface level deep. The target audience is young teens - children. I do not expect neon genesis evangelion depth in the writing. But maybe you could be right, but usually the hints are way more subtle, like Peter Parker’s jizzed hands in the first Spiderman movie when he wakes up (big puberty analogy). But, for me, the iCarly episode would make it very disturbing if a Nickelodeon show wanted to make subliminal messaging about sex

linux4noobs@programming.dev•I'm ready to move from Mint and do some Distro Hopping. What's your suggestions on how to best do this from stock Mint 22.2?
2·4 months agoI know privacy is somewhat adjacent to security, you do not have to follow this guideline, but I thought it is an interesting resource.

2·4 months agoI really am glad if you want to distro hop, I have done it many times. Play around, really try to see what the developers intended. It is a learning curve.
But speaking from my own experience, I am not too technically gifted and I enjoyed trying new things but I kept coming back to Mint. I feel there is nothing wrong if you come back. It’s like life, don’t be scared of trying new things, try, but nothing wrong if you know what you like and come back to it, even if it is a bit boring.
But experiment, go mad, my point I wanted to make is the worst case is you have a nice distro to fall back to.
Same here, played around, but mint keeps pulling me back in. 10+ years going strong
