Most roommate situations are 2 or 3 people. So that’s either half or a third of the cost. I’d call that “easily” yes.

Besides fighting the system, a good solution in cases like this is to find roommates. You can easily drop your rent and utilities cost to a third of what you’d normally pay.

Privacy@programming.dev•Got Hit with YouTube Age Verification CheckEnglish
14·6 days agoThis is quite common actually. Not sure why you think it’s weird. It could literally be the “Fuck” in the title that age restricts it. This is why Youtube creators have been bleeping out every possible curseword for years now. Third party clients wouldn’t be able to bypass the age check either. You need an adult account to get access to the video stream data.
But if you’re just venting, yeah, it’s awful. But it’s also kind of normal that an age check is an actual age check. If only the reasons for limiting by age were less restrictive. Keep in mind though that Youtube is strict because it makes it easy on a global scale.

Opensource@programming.dev•HDMI Forum is unwilling to disclose the 2.1 specification for open-source (Linux): according to AMD, they had submitted a functional, HDMI 2.1-compatible driver [for linux?], which the Forum rejected.English
4·7 days agoThat’s a passive cable and would require DP++. Funnily enough it would also require a HDMI 2.1 capable driver.
If we’re talking about the darknet under Tor and the likes, bandwidth and page speed becomes an important factor. Using frameworks automatically makes the website slower and stuff like javascript is almost always disabled. There’s also opsec one should be doing even on their code. Re-using code you have written for opensource projects or clearnet websites might get linked back to you.
tl;dr, it’s more of a technical limitation

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•Malicious VSCode extensions on Microsoft's registry drop infostealersEnglish
6·8 days agoA big problem in the whole third party extension world (for browsers and apps like these) is that the creators of these extensions are often swayed to sell their creation. Dropping an infostealer to 1000 people could easily get you 10s of thousands of dollars if you use the stolen info for stuff like bank fraud. So invest a few thousand of that to buy the extension and you get a profit. You can even get access to the accounts of extension creators by getting them infected by other extensions. This can even be automated in the form of a worm such as the NPM malware named Shai-Hulud.
It’s an extremely dirty battle that requires every developer to be vigilant about who they trust and to defend their creation at all costs. Easy money always has a bad side, and I hope every developer understands that their users have put a trust into them that the developer has most likely also put into other developers.

Why not? I haven’t used it yet but it seems great too.
All of the Valve employees are making bank. I don’t think they’ll be changing their core values any time soon even if he dies.
We’re talking about farms. Not just a plant or two you can have in your yard.
I don’t live in the Netherlands either. And in my country I already vote for the most left party that wants to legalize it.
Not sure why you feel the need to make this personal about me.
Don’t worry either, it’s not like I think I’m replying to OP.
Like the US? No thanks.
Worldwide there are not many places. It’s not even legal in the Netherlands to grow weed (with an exception for personal use).
It isn’t but feel free to notice the obvious similarities.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Why won’t Steam Machine support HDMI 2.1? Digging in on the display standard drama.English
3·11 days agoThat one is 27". I think that’s way too small for the living room. I also consider 120hz to be overkill for some couch gaming and movies.

The more rooms an apartment or house has, the less you pay for each one separately. I paid less than €300/month living with 2 other roommates.
Maybe you’re talking about the US.
