Once we all figure out that it’s not left vs right, white vs black, wrong vs right, but up vs down that will be a good thing.

The real kick in the pants will be the people that are the haves turn into have nots. Rising insurance and property taxes going to make people sell their home when originally they could afford it. Next 10 years will either suck for you or you come out on top

Wage slavery whilst losing your rights, health, and quality of life (to the point life spans are getting SHORTER), is an example of a new kind of genocide.

Class based genocide of a whole society…

…and fascism like that has to be stopped, because it won’t stop its self. It has to BE stopped. Not slowed down, or negotiated with. STOPPED.

I don’t disagree but considering we’ve been speedrunning climate collapse and resource depletion for a good long while now, in about 25 to 30 years all this absolutely will stop itself because most of us will be dead.

Click the spoiler if you want to find out some of the ways that’s going to go down. Don’t if you don’t, idc.

      spoiler

90% of earths topsoil is at risk of depletion by 2050

Global freshwater demand will exceed supply 40% by 2030

Global human population has surpassed Earth’s sustainable carrying capacity.

Global carbon emissions are still rising

The latest CFSv2 model runs now show the Nino 3.4 SST anomaly forecast peaking at 4.10°C in November.

The arctic sea ice extent is declining rapidly and we’re likely headed into a Blue Ocean Event later this year, and potentially a double BOE depending on how the El Nino and summer in the southern hemisphere go.

June 2026 came in as the second warmest on record since 1940 at 1.39°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, second only to 2024 at 1.50°C above the baseline

The world is likely to exceed a key global warming target soon but the earths alebedo with the declining sea ice and lack of cloud cover will impact these numbers massively and isn’t being predicted for, which means that 4.5c above the baseline by 2060 is now possible.

        Doomer talk.

Not inaccurate, just what it will be labeled as.

On a positive note, the BOE isn’t the end of things. It’s just a labeling of a new turning point. Whee.

A new turning point for the increased albedo, yeah.

Ice reflects and absorbs heat by surface area, water does not reflect light as effectively and absorbs heat into the water.

The energy it takes to turn 1g ice to 1g water, would heat that same 1g water to +80°C.

A double BOE will be catastrophic.

Will the double BOE shutdown the AMOC and cause an ice age? Or has that prediction been downgraded?

Does double BOE mean back to back years? I don’t see how any following year wouldn’t have a time of clear ocean after the first one can collect that energy. The BOE point from then on just gets longer and longer, until the waters stay open all year. I.e., there’s only one BOE, and no going back.

Antartica’s ice will be present even in a hothouse Earth, at least for a millennia. That’s a lot of ice. And there’s no “ocean”, just the surrounding waters that don’t freeze in the same way as the Arctic. We are about to get some action though from the Thwaites glacier, so that will be fun.

Granted, its surrounding waters and refrigerator action does influence the weather and current systems in its own way, but is different.

The Blue Ocean Event is about the sea ice extent. Here’s another link to another interactive map showing the ice extent at the poles. It’s not looking so great.

Thwaites is going to be interesting to see the impact of, however grusome that is to admit.

It sometimes is, there’s definitely injustice that needs to be righted… but too many trap themselves in a loop of hatred and fear that causes them to spiral into depression or causes them to grasp for easy answers that dont really offer effective solutions. Sometimes you need to remember what youre fighting for and not just what youre fighting against.

Not to say the original commenter wasn’t offense. They totally were.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author’s website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author’s comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you’re posting:

  • Markdown - Links / Images

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what’s going on. (example)
