I’m just waiting for proton to make vtmnb playable on my deck without the extra hoops. If anyone wants to hang out over here with me, I do have cake. Just silly little me, with my silly little cake and my silly little wish to play the game again.

Don’t old games need tweaks and mods to play on windows too? I doubt all old games will ever be click and play as it exists now.

Yeah but steam deck uses Linux, which uses proton specifically to run windows games. Not sure why I’m being downvoted lol

On the contrary having moved to linux made me enjoy way more very old games recently from the 90s just enable the right libraries in proton.

With compatibility layers like proton/wine itself i see no reason why we couldn’t have old games playable click and play in the future.

We would need a community of maintenance but the biggest hurdle is actually ip ownership and copyright law. Why let customer’s play old games if they can buy a new version instead.

I bought it on gog couple days back, can run it and play but mouse look has problems where looking with the mouse leaves it locked either to bottom or top, in general eratic mouse movements.

You experiencing this also or you didn’t experience this bug?

I haven’t tried it recently, but I remember having problems with it, let me reinstall it quickly Edit: Installing the unofficial patch wasn’t intuitive, but it worked fine and I’m having a great time again

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Valve has pushed out what they’re calling Proton 9.0 (Release Candidate 2), with a whole bunch of improvements for gaming on Linux Desktop and Steam Deck.

Previously playable only with Proton Experimental: Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge, Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun and Firestorm, Aisling and the Tavern of Elves, Snares of Ruin 2, Insanity’s Blade, Bloody Walls.

Video playback in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition works again.

Total War: WARHAMMER II no longer has clicking audio while playing videos.

Curious if anyone knows what actually broke it between the previous version Proton and the one before that?
