So is it an emulator? Or does “translation layer” mean something else?
For those who don’t care, it’s an emulator.
For those that do care, it’s not trying to emulate the actual hardware of the xbox one it’s just translating system calls to work on normal Windows PCs. WINE, the inspiration for the name, stands for WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR so they probably didn’t want to call it one. But you could call it high level emulation if you want.
Thanks for the explanation.
So it’s HLE?
Well the E stands for emulation, so no.
Tbh I wrote that comment moments after waking up with my eyes barely open.
That’s a cool project! I’d love to see more translation layers making vendor lock-in less of an issue
Oh nice. Wonder if we will ever get to game pass on Linux.
Are there even any Xbone games that aren’t available on PC?
Its a short list
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category%3AXbox_One-only_games
Is there an “Xbox One only games not present on any other platforms” list because Halo 5 is playable on a Series console.
If we cross reference the above list with the excluded games list here we get an even shorter list:
- Fighter Within
- FRU
- Kinect Sports Rivals
- Shape Up
- Xbox Fitness
At the very least, there’s Rare Replay and Halo 5. Plus this was like the very end of the era where some third parties didn’t make PC ports, so I’m sure there are some stragglers there.
There are xbox360 games that aren’t on PC, and if this also handles the XBone’s backwards compatibility, then yes there are Xbox games that aren’t available on PC currently
Namely I’ve been waiting to play Lost Odyssey on PC for over a decade
Xbone doesnt even support all 360 games, around 30% of the games iirc.
i feel Like you would pronounce it Like the german word Schwein. shwine chwine xwine.
