When does this ever happen?
Not so much this scenario, but “I run Linux BTW” is just constant on here.
there are reasons for that.
It is a niche open source social network. I feel like having enthusiastic Linux users is inevitable.
You’re right, but it’s still pretty tedious sometimes.
Yeah, just so you know I also run Linux. Now that you are clearly interested let me know if you need opinions on distros.
*I also used to run arch btw.
Used to? What are you running now?
Tumbleweed! :)
This would be a lot more accurate if Windows users weren’t constantly complaining about Windows.
As a Windows user, I fucking hate windows and pray for the day SteamOS becomes available for download
Why?
What makes Steam OS so special? I don’t really understand why you can’t just install Steam on literally anything else
I wanna get into Linux, and I feel SteamOS would be a beginner friendly way of doing it, since I don’t have a whole lot of time right now to dedicate to learning to do command line installations.
That is still not unique to Steam OS. Also Steam OS on PC hardware is going to be a lot less smooth as Steam OS is optimized for the exact hardware of the Steamdeck.
If you want Linux go Linux mint or something similar. The system has a solid base with automatic GUI tools that handle the system. It is possible to completely skip the command line but personally I would do some basics as CLI tools are almost always faster.
Maybe look into Bazzite, it’s a gaming focused distro that’s pretty beginner friendly.
Iirc that’s SteamOS from back in the Steam Machine days. I believe it’s a completely different distribution from what runs on the Steam Deck.
it would help home theater pcs
Home theatre PC running SteamOS would be kickass
Like the old Steam Machine, but like actually good
I used to advocate for Linux, because I wanted more people to use it, so that more software devs would support it. I care a lot less about that since proton came to prominence. Linux still doesn’t get all the support from devs that I want, but there’s so much great software available now, both open source and proprietary, that I don’t really worry about non Linux users anymore.
So use whatever OS you want, folks. I don’t really care.
Oops you’ve picked the wrong audience posting that on Lemmy!
Yeah, but we can all agree that the world would be better off if Microsoft went out of business tomorrow, right?
Do they know people run Steam, Vivaldi and Teamviewer on linux too and could not care less?
Im here to spread the good word for those who need/want to still use Windows, look up W11 IoT Enterprise LTSC.
Things it doesn’t have: Recall, copilot, ads, cortana, TPM requirement, secure boot requirement, ms store, XBOX and gaming services.
Once it’s freshly installed, it’s like a fresh XP install, naked. Can even group policy to turn off all telemetry. It’s fantastic for gaming.
Since they refuse to license it to just anyone, check out massgravedotdev.
How about debloating it yourself
I’ve tried that far too many times with both W10 and W11. Microsoft always finds a way to re-bloat. I’m pretty sure they have a team dedicated to making sure you get a bunch of bullshit bloat, and to find work arounds to however you removed it.
Way less painful to start over with LTSC and then forget about keeping on top of bloat, AI, and telemetry.
ohh
Had so much fun when I last used Windows
It is fun as a hobby OS
Your taste in games is even worse than your meme
Man, I wish I could have this much fun staring at my desktop.
That’s new
