Yeah I use bazzite as a general desktop distro. It’s incredibly stable and the atomic nature really has grown on me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•[solved] Do you know about the upcoming February 5th event ?
5·1 year agoI think this has value even if it doesn’t cause immediate change. People need to just get out and express how they’re feeling and network with like minded people instead of sitting online doomscrolling. We’ve got to organize.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Iraq War was preceded by the largest worldwide non-violent protests in history and the war happened anyway.
12·1 year agoThis last election made me into an anarchist for now. I do not believe there is any way to salvage this system we have in any meaningful way. I’m not a violent person so I can’t see myself doing anything like Luigi, but Democrats aren’t going to save anyone and are just one part of the problem.
I think Donald could be the death blow to our country as more and more of our social contract is upended, especially with talks of killing the ACA and other popular programs.

21·1 year agoYeah I agree, but we dont really live in that society anymore. All attempts at reform are sidelined and corporate interests are put over our own constantly. I don’t like it either, but people have a breaking point and they can only take so much. If we had a stronger aca that wasn’t gutted by industry maybe there wouldn’t have been motive here.
Genuine question: why not try Linux? You’ll continue to get updates without the nagware. There are very few games I play that cant run on proton at this point.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true?
12·1 year agoThat’s been the case since '16. Things need to change at the DNC because maga sure as shit aren’t going away.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Yes, their platform was weak. But you seriously thought a fascist dictatorship was an acceptable alternative?
3·1 year agoTrump was way more unpopular then. He also told his supporters to vote day of. Voting by mail was way easier that year so people that may normally not have voted did, and Trump supporters voted election Day. He basically kneecapped himself.
I’m convinced he would’ve be reelected had it not been for COVID.

82·1 year agoThe DNC isn’t entitled to Americans votes. They lost us and lost folks to the Republicans because they promised to fix the economy and are actually talking to people directly. The DNC is fucking dead to me.
I voted Kamala but I knew she didn’t stand a chance. I knew we were cooked when it was Biden/Kamala

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do EV's actually do anything beneficial for the planet?
181·2 years agoAnother point is that cars, car infrastructure, and car oriented development is one of the single most wasteful ways to use land. Building smarter cities with alternative transit systems, mixed use areas, and actually using all 3 dimensions like many newer cities in China could protect so much habitat from needlessly being destroyed. There’s hardly any truly wild land left on the east coast, it’s hard to tell what things used to look like now that practically everything is covered in suburbs and strip malls.
If you’re coming from something like windows or non atomic distros, there is a learning curve. Just be aware that you should not install packages manually. You can’t simply do something like: sudo apt install package
There is an app store where you can install probably 95% of what youd need (bazaar), start there and if it isn’t there you can spin up a distrobox.
I do dev work, so I have a dedicated box with Ubuntu that I have my build tools and vscode installed on.
This is really nice because it allows me to run experiments without nuking my main distro, it just feels really weird at first to be running most things containerized.
They do have recipes for common things if it needs to run on the host, like I have something added for controlling AMD GPU fan speeds/power profile.
