My favorite take on the subject Internet Comment Etiquette: “The Mandela Effect”

my kid was playing on a swing in a community park in a neighboring town (an expensive place to live). She found a big baggie of cash, looked like mostly singles, but it was maybe 2" thick. I told her to put it back and not mess with it. Maybe it was someones birthday money, maybe it was some other nefarious source. no matter what I don’t need that in my life, I definitely don’t need my kid dealing with it.
I listen to mostly death metal and my wife is into musicals. Its really not an issue. I have gone with her to Book of Mormon (a musical), she has gone with me to metal shows… actually she used to get me back stage to several (she worked catering). Neither of us is going to choose to play the others music when we are by ourselves, but we can find a little common ground regardless.
Face to fist style.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•California father arrested after repainting crosswalk, adding stop signs near children’s parkEnglish
50·1 month ago‘arrested at 1:30am’
That was his mistake. Do it at 10am on a weekday with cones and a high vis vest and they wouldn’t have noticed for a couple months.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How to find a fan that blows 90° from intake?English

it sounds like I’m joking but it is really what they are called.
I’m sorry, but it really bugs me that the small domino is a fucking war. While the big domino is depicted here as the AI bubble bursting.
At a minimum, it’s a * poor use of the meme *, but really the priorities are just way out of whack.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Guinea worm disease is on the brink of being eradicatedEnglish
35·3 months agowe are seeing a resurgence of New World Screwworms. We eradicated it in the US in 1966, however, we have since seen a resurgence. Basically we used sterile males to make sure no new worms would be born in the US but thats a big border, so we worked with Mexico and other north and Central American countries to push it down past panama. Unfortunately when republicans find out we are spending money fighting disease in other countries, they think why help them? and kill funding. So now we are going to have to spend a shitload more money to defend our wide ass border, rather than a fraction of the cost defending a natural border.
So we had a strange early insurance change at work. HSA plan went from 6k max out of pocket to 16k.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•San Francisco has the infrastructure to be a transit utopia. What’s holding it back? Something smallEnglish
2·3 months agoIt was very poorly written. The fact that you (and I) read the article and don’t know what they were intending to convey is telling. I THINK the issue is fragmentation that they mention breifly, but that is probably me bring my previous opinions to the article.

Opensource@programming.dev•Best CAD software for open source hardware design
4·3 months agoI think FreeCAD has potential. It’s not there yet. I’m trying to learn it but I’m getting a lot of grey in my beard and have been using Solidworks at work so long any new friction is frustrating.
For PDM/PLM. I’ve been looking at this recently. It also is not ready.
https://github.com/grd/FreePDM
Its more work to setup but I am of the opinion parts should have drawings to show critical dimensions. Drawings should have rev blocks describing differences.
There are issues to this approach, but it solves a lot of problems.

KEXP wopop for example finds music from around the world you probably haven’t heard of.
right? teams is a descendant of INSTANT messaging. I actually find it more annoying if someone tries to initiate a Teams Call without the “do you have a minute for a quick call?”
Some things are easier to do via email. Some things are best discussed live. Be that via text or voice or video.

Linux@programming.dev•Those who've switched to Linux in the last year, how is it going?
6·3 months agoI switched to Nobara a couple months ago. My computer is a lot snappier. Overall its great. Some minor difficulties but no show stoppers.
Signal desktop gives me an error that it is keeping credentials in plaintext which is fucked, I tried to get it to not do that but havnt been able to figure out how. (there are tutorials for ubuntu/gnome, but I havnt figured out how to translate those to fedora/kde…
I just started using crow-translate which is amazing, but keep getting a screenshot error message. Something with wayland maybe? again when I search there is a lot of shit about ubuntu/gnome but that doesnt really help.
Also more protein in wheat compared to rice. Actually a lot more nutrients in wheat compared to rice.

10·2 years agowhat is the mass arbitration lawsuit about? Is it, as dual_sport_dork’s article suggests, an antitrust lawsuit? If that is the case… I’d rather claw back the ability to sue directly (small claims, yay!). If valve is accused of something else Id love to hear about it.
Lol
I’m not a programmer but I have at least one double booking every day. Some weeks look like a brick wall sideways (they seem to always overlap by a half hour for some reason).

I seem to remember wedge was basically an inclined plane, and a screw was an inclined plane wrapped around an axle. Also a pulley is a specific application of wheel and axle.
