Yea I’m not too worried. I’m very hireable and will likely wind up getting a fat pay increase out of this. It’s just that I really loved that job and preferred to make less and stay.

I got laid off yesterday due to ‘economic issues’, and the juxtaposition of the stock market hitting a record high was not lost on me.

Edit to add: just got confirmation that one of my programs is bringing in 80k today. This is fuckin wild man.

Mine sucks because it’s the best job I’ve ever had. Planned on staying as long as they’d keep me (just under 5 years it turns out) and had no plans at all to even poke around at other roles.

The silver lining is I’ll prob get a nice pay increase since I’ve been pretty underpaid at this place as it’s an NPO.

Two nights ago I had a random meeting with the CEO, who I have a really good relationship with, added to my calendar. Thought nothing of it.

I entered the zoom call and said ‘so am I getting fired?’

The answer was yes.

Awkward silence ensued for a minute until they started telling me about the severance package.

I’m 39, and I almost never used the headphone jack on any of my old phones, and I’m one of those that doesn’t miss the jack.

I get why people want it, I’m just not in that camp, and most of my friends are the same.

And I’m saying that what’s described in the OP is a habit, not an addiction.

‘Addiction’ is very overused when it comes to porn because people don’t have any concept of what addiction actually is. Half the time the harm doesn’t come from looking at porn, it comes from the purity culture that we’re inundated with in western society. Being abused by puritanical ideology does not make looking at porn an addiction. Neither does having a strong sex drive that makes us want to engage with sexual content.

If it just takes a month to break, it’s not an addiction. It’s a habit.

Really hate the way that the word addiction is watered down by people who just look at porn a lot.

My sister was nearly put on the registry when she was 15 for slapping a friends butt in school who had decided she didn’t want to be friends with her anymore but hadn’t exactly communicated it. She chose to communicate that by accusing her of SA.

My sister avoided the registry by a mix of community service and counseling, but I always thought it was wild that she was at risk while under 18.

I think there’s value for folks in the community to have the hyper-specific labels. I’m saying this as a bi person who agrees that pan, Omni, etc are sub categories of bi.
