11 years? Damn, time flies. I waited in line for the 1.0 release and took a week off of work to play it. I really need to give XIV another shot once I’m done with XI.

I also got a million spam calls after applying for a mortgage with a trusted bank a couple years ago. I suspect that the banks sell your information to mortgage brokers. I’d be curious to see the privacy policy on the form you submitted.
Worth noting that all modern failures have been GE models or ancient Westinghouse models. Modern nuclear reactors built by Westinghouse are virtually immune from meltdown, and Westinghouse is the lead player in new builds. Nuclear safety has come miles since the like of Fukushima, and especially 3 Mile Island. I’d feel perfectly safe living near a new Westinghouse nuclear plant.
HorizonXI is free and immensely popular if anyone wants a good look at what old-school MMOs used to be. It requires cooperation and teamwork at every step, and the community is wonderful.
Gen Z struggles with file systems in general, because the vast majority of their technical experience is on mobile OS’s. However, Gen Z compsci students are somehow far beyond the skill set that millennials had at their age. Or at least that has been my experience with interns over the past 12 years.
The older I get, the more problems that vodka solves.
Which flavor? Pro?
Spiderwebs or insects can mess with the sensors, likewise with dust. Try spraying some canned air inside. Or if it’s a few years old, you may want to replace it.
This is not my experience on Windows 10 Pro
Everyone here is dramatically overcomplicating the solution. Simply:
This stops the update service and will absolutely prevent windows updates from running. BUT it reverts at the next boot, so be careful.
If you want a more permanent solution, you can edit a regkey to trick the system into looking for a local wsus server, which will prevent it from reaching out to the web. Read this for a rundown: https://learn.microsoft.com/de-de/security-updates/windowsupdateservices/21669493

I live in an apartment and just charge it once a week for 30 min while I do my grocery shopping. Ezpz. I’ve been doing this for 3 years and have never had a problem.
I work in IT. My favorite part is focusing on a difficult problem that no one else can solve, and fixing it. My nickname at work is “the tank” because they can point me at any issue and I’ll fix it. I’ll also toss in the paycheck. I had a recruiter tell me 2 years ago that my skill set isn’t even worth $65k and now I’m making more than double that.
My least favorite part is the occasional late nights. Worked a 20 hour shift the other day for a particularly difficult major issue. This happens maybe twice a year. I’m at an age where it takes a toll.
As someone who still uses a CRT for specific uses, I feel that you’re misremembering the switch over from CRT to LCD. At the time, LCD were blurry and less vibrant than CRT. Technical advancements have solved this over time.
Late model CRTs were even flat to eliminate the distortion you’re describing.
I’ve run into this a few times. If the culture and benefits are good but we can’t level on pay, I let them know that I can’t accept the offer but I refer them to a colleague with less experience for whom the pay would be appropriate. After over a decade in leadership I’ve had many employees, and I’m always looking out for ways they can step up the ladder. We’ve gotta have each other’s back in this job market.
These jobs are all pushing 6 figures tho. Not sure what kind of job would try to push 36k on a professional position.
What? It’s rated to tow 11,000 lbs. An f150 tows 7,400-10,800 in comparison. It’s a stupid vehicle for many reasons but tow capacity is not one of them.
Probably taking the turnpike. There’s a section in Westmoreland County where it randomly drops from 75 mph to 55 mph and catches everyone off guard. There’s also sections of Route 119 that randomly drop from 50 to 25 for no discernable reason, other than catching out-of-towners by surprise and slapping them with a speeding ticket.
I had no idea there was a word for this, I’m the same way.
I feel like I remember seeing avatars like this somewhere other than The Palace. Would’ve been late 90s / early 2000s.
I used to do this, but Verizon gave me a Flip 5 for $500 less than Samsung was offering and I got a free tablet with it. I needed to switch off of Google Fi anyway because they didn’t have service at my job site.
