Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Assholes who take free html games and repackage them as "premium" paid gamesEnglish
2·1 day agoI was going to say this about old Windows programs, like Dope Wars, however the original developer carried it over to the app store and it can be bought for a dollar.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do you dislike AI? Is there such a thing as an ethical use of AI? Are you willing to destroy the web to limit the spread of AI? What is AI? Do AI proponents deserve jail time? Is AI heretical?English
2·1 day agoAI as I’m seeing it, is just a very glorified search engine/artificial companion that talks to you. I see it as no different than how we slap “smart” on devices and appliances. All because they now have screens, apps and a couple extra functions. AI is only as good in prolonged periods, as in, continually feeding it information, as experienced in my time with both Grok and ChatGPT.
I see its benefits, but I still do not find it a universal solve-all for everyday problems. It’s a great tool - if strictly used as a tool. The problem, are unsurprisingly the individuals who have nothing but malicious or at times obliviously nuanced intent with the use of AI. So they take those findings and experiences, before demonizing AI which we’re seeing in practice.
An ethical use of AI is to not use AI for those kinds of purposes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would it make sense to have a list of "Retired Questions"? - Questions asked so often and with no real change in answers that they're deleted on sight - if so, what questions would you pick?English
3·1 day agoNo. Some questions bear repeating because:
Users have a tendency to delete their accounts, taking their posts with them including what they asked.
Newer users and even frequent ones, can’t be bothered to comb through pages and pages of previously asked questions. Plus, it’s gravedigging old posts.
Restricting questions would just be too limiting, however, there are reasons some questions should not be asked and that falls in line to the rules of the sidebar that get constantly ignored.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why aren't any of the AI companies profitable currently?English
15·3 days agoFirst off, we don’t need your arrows to know how to read a title. I wish we can get over this normalized thing where people have to point out “it’s in the title”. Like, no duh, we can READ it. Stop insulting people’s intelligence.
And to make a mockery of your body text or lack of. My answers are in the comments.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a band or artist you wish you could see, but they never make it to your area?English
2·3 days agoMajority of bands. In my old state of VT, no big band would ever waste time there and I was limited as to how far I could travel when they reach other states like Mass or New York.
And where I currently live, yeah there will sometimes be some bands/groups I wouldn’t mind seeing, but I’m still locked out from seeing most of them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone actually eaten or diped OREO with MilkEnglish
5·3 days agoYes, it is mandatory for me that if I am to ever buy cookies such as Oreo, there must be milk to go with it. I can’t handle eating them dry.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•The men who hated Justin Bieber in the 2000's are the most insufferable archetype of men.English
1·3 days agoBieber was more like…2010s, with early peaks of success tailing off the 2000s. The bieber hate was enormous in the 2010s though.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Lemmy isn't much better than redditEnglish
1·3 days agoThis is why I feel at times, it is a bad idea for a new platform to try and replicate an old platform for people to run from. The Fediverse should be an entirely new platform/network with decentralization as a bonus. Introduce new ideas, take bold risks (like eliminating karma systems entirely), incorporate ideas that worked by consistency .etc
But, the fact that Lemmy, Mastodon, Bluesky and other Fediverse copy and paste ideas from Reddit, Twitter and Facebook. They subject themselves to the same flaws as they all did. So, now, we have the same shit happening, but on different platforms and in some cases, exploits features for people to abuse that allow them to get away with more shit.
The Fediverse has failed.
…No. That’s just you re-defining an already established term and trying to expand upon, beyond that establishment.
No, wordplay is not fun, it just creates confusion and this is exactly why, it’s harder for some LGBTQ+ members to get acceptance. Because, you there stirring the pot of wordplay, just confuses people into identity chaos. Can you try explaining to someone who doesn’t know or understand, but is curious, about certain members from the community with a straight face?
Without them idly nodding before probably going “okay, cool” but not in a “I totally understand” way but more like a dismissive way because internally they’re fucking confused and probably are more turned off from understanding LGBTQ+ individuals than before.
That’s you ruining it for them. So no, wordplay is NOT fun. Fuck off with that!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie franchise gets worse with each new film?English
1·4 days agoEarly 2000s film-making was that crazy. The only other ambitious feat I know of (besides the BTTF example someone else mentioned) was that Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions both released in the same year of eachother, by a few months apart. Were they any good? Up for anyone’s debate (but both far exceed Resurrections). That means, that they also were done in one very long shoot.
Enby here.
Absolutely not.
Non-binary means you represent yourself outside of both genders as in, you identify as neither, you’re just an individual. Alternatively, you can also identify as genderfluid, being that you’re a mix of both but still don’t identify yourself as strongly either gender.
But regarding anything transgender-related? No. Transgender is you still identifying by a gender and changing over to that other gender. So long as you identify, strongly, as one or both genders to be either, you are not non-binary. So, please don’t confuse the two.
SO: The key difference between non-binary and trans is pretty clear. Non-Binary identifies OUTSIDE of genders, all and any. Transgenders identifies INSIDE genders, both or any. The only key trait they both share is - Genderfluid. But even then, the two don’t correspond eachother. And to clarify the shared Genderfluid label;
When you’re Non-Binary and Genderfluid, you take numerous attributes and traits from either gender, but you do not strongly represent either gender. You can behave like a man outside, feel female inside and still be like “I still see myself as just a person, no gender.” and vice versa.
When you’re Transgender and Genderfluid, you take numerous attributes and traits from either gender, so you identify as both genders and you go about that however you wish.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are churches in Europe almost always built on top of Pagan ritual sites?English
241·4 days agoBecause the bastards knew they couldn’t convert them when they were alive, so fuck it, they’ll wait until they’re dead and disicrate the remains. It’s no different than when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints went around converting dead jews, even ones from the holocaust, from converting even though they were told not to.
Religious bastards will stop at nothing to convert anyone.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What device never needed a 'Smart' version?English
2·4 days agoDude, I’m glad to know someone else who does this because I’ve got it set up too this way. I’ve got 3 monitors in my apartment, two of them are for PC that are spread apart (because I found that my attention seems to not work well when they’re close together) and I have a TV in the center of the living room. I have an HDMI cable going from PC to that TV while the other ports are taken from DVI-Displayport adapters from the other monitors.
I can watch any streaming service I want with next to no ads, as it was intended and should be intended.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie franchise gets worse with each new film?English
7·4 days agoTransformers, the Bay ones.
You can argue that the very first one was an honest attempt. But things immediately goes down hill once you get to Revenge of the Fallen. And it just doubles down and doubles down every entry that you would think it is a contest of how many stupid ideas can they get away with and do get away with per entry. I got off at Dark of the Moon because I’ve seen enough stupid that I didn’t care of the other ones.
The Hobbit Trilogy
If you continued on, like I did, into the trilogy of this series, you’ll know. An unnecessary, shoe-horned angle of a dwarf and a elf affection. I don’t need to say more.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a scam that's so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?English
1·4 days agoI prefer these questions than anyone going here and thinking people have all of the answers to the freaking universe. I mean there’s instances where you could go for those kinds of questions, but because people are obliviously lazy, they wound up here.
Why do you come here to ask us whether or not you think you’re an asshole in a scenario involving people we don’t know and we expect to understand your life’s story?
Why do you come here asking us twenty tech support questions that could’ve easily been answered with google searches?
Why do you come here asking us something with the context of something only you would know?
It’s greatly insulting, mind-numbing and uninteresting to even entertain a single question of those.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a scam that's so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?English
5·4 days agoServices that still bother touting the whole ‘up to’ practice.
You’re never guaranteed anything, you just deal with what the service decides to give you. Internet especially, if you’re always getting less than the speed advertised - oh well - they said ‘up to’ which to them means, you’ll get it on a good day but every other day, deal with what’s there.

2·4 days agoYou can die from teeth issues, you need teeth to properly digest food with since you chew on it, people really do judge you a lot on whether you have good teeth, attractive teeth is important, nobody likes bad breath, nobody likes yellowed teeth .etc
And it is stupidly expensive to deal with.
And that’s where you’ve earned a block BECAUSE YOU’RE A LITTLE BITCH!
