Wal-Mart has already been sued multiple times for paying employees in vouchers only redeemable at Wal-Mart, a.k.a. company scrip. Which is blatantly illegal.
If done wrong (say, by Amazon at some mega-fullfillment center) this is going to turn into company towns very quickly.
