Why do you think Mastodon is exempt from those rules? The law applies to all sites/services with a significant UK audience - some of the Mastodon .uk instances will definitely be subject to this, and because of how badly the law is written, it can apply to many more.

People can have their hardon for hating Bluesky, but they’re literally just trying to avoid being fined by the UK govt here - this wasn’t their idea.

The UK government is forcing them and all other web services to do the same. UK-hosted Mastodon servers may coast under the radar for awhile, but they’ll come for them eventually.

Rather than getting mad at Bluesky for implementing government-mandated age verification, how about actually getting mad at the UK government?

Yeah, I get pushing for Mastodon over Bluesky, but Bluesky is being forced to do this by the UK government for UK citizens so this is just exaggerated rage bait.

Verizon’s customer portal. Clunky, badly designed interface and what should be simple tasks end in dead pages, non-responsive widgets, and interminable loading screens. Just awful.

None of the age verification services respect privacy - that’s baked into the whole push for it. Because it’s not just about “verifying” people’s ages at a specific point in time, especially in the US, it’s about being able to prove you have in case anyone tries to sue you.

Headlines like this really need to put the emphasis on the cause, e.g. “UK Government Forces Bluesky to Roll Out Age Verification”

You do know they’re rounding up and incarcerating/deporting legal immigrants and talking about denaturalizing citizens, right? They left that argument behind about only going after “illegals” after the inauguration. Now we’ve got Stephen Miller basically recreating internment camps and Laura Loomer talking about feeding 65 million Hispanics to alligators.

You can tell my brain already left for the long weekend - no idea where that brain fart came from.

From the guy who glossed over real historical/social issues in Titanic? Who ignored many of the moral issues of Bruce Wayne preferring to play dress up instead of working to fix Gotham? [Edit: I’m an idiot] Or who ripped off storylines from better movies, slapped Papyrus font on the title, and made an overly indulgent series of movies that are more pretty screensaver than cinema? He can fuck off.

Nothing for about the last two years - before that? All sorts of different things. But finally realized pretty much every game was either just trying to get me to cough up more money, was a subpar experience because of interface/hardware limitations, and/or weren’t actually fun beyond giving me a brief distraction when I was bored.

If I get to the point where I want a mobile gaming option, I’ll just get a Steam Deck. Honestly the less time I spend attached to my phone, the better.
