Pretty sure the blob restraining the powers of president in power is the obstructionist senate, mainly for a democrat president.

Yes I know the EU forced it’s will on Apple, that’s my exact fucking point.

It’s almost as if you don’t let capitalism completely rampant and create new age oligarchs then democracy works.

I guess also should watch an almost 2 hour podcast to find out it’s easier to call things the blob than Super PACs, lobbyist groups and think thanks. Thanks for the link.

  • No offense but this reads like an edgy teenager’s take on politics, was it the blob who prevented the 10 million people who showed for biden to not show up for Harris? Or was it their selfishness, sexism, racism, misguided idiotic leftism (like you see in lemmy comments about how this is revenge for not taking a stance on gaza)

How come the EU can force change on US companies yet the US fails to do so? Is the blob in the Us, just like alien attacks and pandemics and serial killers in movies?

  • I don’t know what kind of fucked up country you live in, but in my the employer- employee relationship means that the employer dictates what work you do and when, so if they don’t give you anything to do that’s on them.

Going further even better if you are self employed and on a cintreact thats fix rather than hours based, they have even less of a case, contract says you will charge x amount every month, if they don’t contact you with any issue that’s on them.

  • On the other hand I am going to see Jimmy Carr live for like 30-40 euros.

I think that actually has a value, concerts I find to be meh, it’s the same music you listen to anyway just very expensive, worse quality and surrounded by sweat, alcohol and too many people.

I prefer going to a festival and then maybe there is a band like and maybe I discover some new ones.

  • The duty to vote in Belgium belongs to all adult Belgians. EU citizens can vote in European and municipal elections. Other foreigners have local voting rights when they have lived in the country for more than five years. Attendance is compulsory for Belgians in Belgium, not doing so results in a fine, 3 fines equals the loss of civil rights.

It can be done, but I was also part of an election oversight or whatever committee, we counted votes and stuff. One of the things we did was we took a vote urn to the local retirement home and well I witnessed what happened when voting is mandatory. In the past It was mandatory in our country as it was part of the eastern bloc and this man just took the first paper, not even reading which party he voted for and just put it in the envelope and voted that way.

So there are definitely downsides to trying to encourage voting too.

Because any sort of goodwill attempt to eliminate people from voting will just increase the chance of it being abused by said nazis, well fascists, because nazis were the fascists from germany.

Also fun fact, like many things IQ tests have a history rooted in racism, so if your plan was to use that then bad luck.

Fun fact number #2 the likes of Trump, Orbán (HUN), Fico (SVK) almost always win because of a low voter turnout.

The previous US election had what, 20 million more voters and surprise surprise, Trump lost.

Extremists are always a passionate vocal minority the more you restrict who can vote the easier time they have to take over the election.

If anything suggesting fines for not voting is a far less dumb idea than the shit you just said.

This reminds me of the Heard v Depp case, on the two X chromosomes subreddit there was this long ass comment from someone who experienced abuse and said she wasn’t the “perfect victim” because she fought back and hurt her abuser back and how because of this it was harder to get away from her abuser.

And when I asked how does she know that in Heard v Depp case it isn’t Depp who is the imperfect victim? Because he had multiple partners testifying to his character of being a kind man etc, while Heard had the opposite (AFAIK).

All I got was silence and downvotes.
