Talk about games, any game.
Discussion questions:
What video games have you played recently?
What are your favorite video game genres?
Question of the week:
What are you anticipating for the TGA this year?
and
What are you anticipating for 2025?
Okay, cheers I’m sure a lot of you have had a hard week, but take heart, and just enjoy yourselves here!
A lot of RDR2 recently. The Gang’s dynamics are really pretty fun and the gameplay feels like the perfect evolution of the Red Dead Series. I really love how they brought back the San Andreas game mechanic of gaining weight and losing weight and I especially like that a Chubby Arthur can sponge up bullets better than a skinny Arthur
Agreeed!
Just got done with the story of Arkham Asylum. Working on the challenges now! Though, I see I’m not as good at combat as I thought lol. At least the stealth challenges were a cakewalk!
Probably going to start up Arkham City once I’m done and keep this ball rolling.
Yeah, awesome
Hell yea! Can’t wait until you get to Arkham Knight. I did a full Arkham (minus Arkham Origins, the red-headed stepchild of the series) a month ago just in time to finish around Halloween, and it was even better than I remembered, it’s extremely rewarding to play on the hardest difficulty, if you’ve beaten it before try the New Game + with Knightmare difficulty, it’s honestly not as hard as it sounds and makes you feel so much more badass throwing enemies and doing Never Shot Never Seen Stealth segments
Just rolled credits on Satisfactory after 100 hours, and been playing the hell out of the Factorio: Space Age DLC (at about 120 hours right now). I like factory games a lot.
Generally having a really good time on Factorio, but Gleba is absolutely not my thing. Everything up to that point I have loved, but I kind of dread continuing on from here.I have Persona 3 Reload on the backburner, for when I clear my plate a bit. About 10 hours into that.
Biggest game I am looking forward to for 2025 is probably Monster Hunter Wilds right now.
Ah, so it’s a DLC, not a fully fledged game like I thought.
Space Age? Yeah, though priced at the same as the base game. Arguably bigger than the base game quite honestly. I imagine I will be over 200 hours by the time I finish it, assuming Gleba doesn’t break me.
There’s a new expansion pack for factorio. Factorio is not for everyone, but whoever gets it gets a cheap per hour entertainment.
Sounds 'ight.
I don’t play more than one game at a time, for some reason, and right now I’m into AoE4. I’ve been climbing the ladder as they say. Well, not so much climbing, more staying in place, but the struggle is fun.
noice
I wanted to play the new Dragon Age game so I’m trying to blitz through Inquisition before I start it. Origins is one of my favorite RPGs and DA2 wasn’t as good but I still liked it, but I’m not totally sure how I feel about Inquisition. I think if I had played it back when it released and had time to explore everything I would have liked it a lot more but as it stands now I’m just trying to rush through it lol
Inquisition is the only one I played and given my love of that genre of games I feel obligated to give it a second shot, it’s been years since I last played it and I didn’t really like the beginning of it and kinda gave up
I suspect that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be like DA2 and Inquisition in terms of quality, though I really liked Inquisition.
I think Inquisition is pretty good. People have criticized it over the years for various things but as someone who’s played RPGs and MMORPGs in the past it scratched a lot of things for me. It’s the type of game that is really worth the money. You can easily lose a hundred to two hundred hours in a complete play-through if you take your time and do all the expansion and side content and with multiple romance options and certain branching parts of the story it takes multiple play-throughs to see absolutely everything.
I do recommend trying to take your time if you can or go back later. The story and scenery are pretty interesting both.
I’ve been playing through Augustus/Casar III off and on. I’m currently stuck on Procurator. I like a lot of genres, but my absolute favorites have to be RPG and RTS City Builder. But only the ones that are more complex, where the player has to manage the economy, plan production lines, allocate labor, etc…
I don’t really care about AAA games (anymore) but whenever I feel like it I’ll watch TGA out of curiosity and because I find the cringe funny.
Not really anticipating anything in particular for the next year. If somehow the new FNaF game turns out to be decent I might get that, but judging from my personal experience with anything post FNaF6 I don’t have any hopes or expectations. EDIT: I’ve been hearing some rumors online that apparently new Half-Life game is in development. If true, I’m really looking forward to that.
Yeah, it’s not like you play the games shown at TGA.
You just want to look. Simple as.
Enlisted. USSR main grindset
Enlisted? What’s that?
Free to play tactical FPS where you control a squad instead of a person. When one character you control dies, you switch to another member of your squad. This allows for big battles. You can drive tanks, planes, etc. too, if I’m not mistaken.
Sounds like my jam.
I haven’t played it, but I have some friends who do and they say it’s super fun.
Might put it on my list then.
multiplayer game, first-person-shooter, you control one specialized squad (mostly infantry squads), and you try along with other squads of your faction to complete game objectives (capture/defense/destruction) against the enemy faction.
School has taken up most of my “gaming time” so I haven’t done much of it. The most recent game I have played is Fields Of Mistria which is like Stardew Valley but with a 90s anime aesthetic and magic. It’s in early access on steam and it’s really fun. I also of course have been playing Stardew valley, especially since the new update recently came out for switch, and Mario Kart 8DX. Once the semester is over I will play Disco Elysium and some other games I have yet to start. I don’t really have a favourite genre except I seem to gravitate towards fantasy and life type games I guess. Chill games with things to do, expect Mario kart is anything but chill. I also like Zelda.
There is only one game I am looking forward to but there has been no clear release date: Haunted Chocolatier, which is made by the same guy who created Stardew, ConcernedApe.
I hope one day I can get a steam deck so I can play all my games away from my computer. I actually prefer handheld and I think I’d play more game if I had the means.
Tbh, I won’t have much gaming time left with my new upcoming job with FedEx. And yeah, I’m also gravitating toward “cozy games,” which is what you seem to describe. Take care. Also, damn, I want Haunted Chocolatier. Fields of Mistria is another good “cozy game.” And play the new Zelda game; it’s the best one in a while, better than Tears of the Kingdom (which isn’t saying much).
I’m almost finished playing Zelda: Wind Waker for the first time in about 10 years.
Firstly it feels crazy to me that its now been as long since the HD Wii U version was released as it was from that release to the original.
Great game though, amazed I still remember where almost everything is. Exploring the ocean in the first half of the game has always been one of my favorite parts. It does a great job of capturing a whimsical sense of adventure for me.
My biggest criticism of the game is that it feels like its about 2 dungeons light. There should have been one on the Great Fish Island for the last pearl before you get the Master Sword and there should have been one more after that with a 3rd sage.
I remember this being commonly held belief back in the day that the game was probably a bit rushed, but it definitely sticks out more to me now than I had recalled.
Overall still one of my favorite Zelda games, I hope one day they go back to making this sort of style of 3D Zelda because the new ones just don’t do it for me.
Yeah, Wind Waker is one of those Zelda games I think fondly of.
More so than Twilight Princess, though it’s arguably the better game.
Though Wind Waker just felt more fun and explorative.
I’m finishing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow probably either tonight or tomorrow, another really fun game! I don’t know if I like it more or less than Symphony of the Night yet. I think it did some stuff better, like I think the soul system is a lot more enjoyable than having to hunt around the castle for sub-weapons if you want a specific one. I like that there’s more types of weapons too, but I ended up just using the normal swords the whole time because I liked being able to cancel the attack by landing too much lol.
I’m not sure what’s next yet! I really wanted to play Dark Souls II, but I’d like to play the vanilla version, and I don’t have $40 to spend on a game right now. I’d usually just pirate it, but I want to be able to play online too so I guess I have to be patient. Hopefully it goes on sale sometime soon. Otherwise I don’t have anything specific in mind. Maybe I can finally get around to Final Fantasy VI? I’ve been wanting to give Metal Gear Solid 2 another try as well now that I can emulate the PS3 version.
Damn, I want to play the original Kojima games.
I had to look it up, I’m surprised that vanilla DS2 PC servers are back online, considering they shut down the console servers, and also considering that DS1 Prepare to Die Edition never had their online restored.
Yep it still averages like 200 players online. Probably not even worth it to be honest, but I don’t know, I really enjoy the online in these games so I’d like to try at least. I’m a little worried I won’t run in to anybody, but when I played Demon’s Souls PS3 there was usually only like 10-20 people online through RPCN and I still managed to get invaded and invade, never co-op though sadly.
I downloaded and played some DS2 online last night, got a little PvP action but I didn’t see any summon signs. I left one down for a few different bosses but didn’t have any luck getting summoned sadly
oh cool! thanks for letting me know. too bad you weren’t able to find anyone to summon you, but good to know there’s still some pvp’ers at least. i might just end up pirating it after all, and if the game goes on sale i can just start another character if i really want to.
I’ve been on a Warframe kick. I need to get back to playing Resident Evil IV, but just haven’t been in the mood.
My favorite genre is probably first-person anything, though I have to usually settle for third-person. I also like strategy and puzzle games.
I’m anticipating Warframe 1999, but that’s not coming out in 2025. I think. Idk, I don’t keep up with stuff.
I always come back to Warframe in spurts, I would like to play it again but just got so much on my list.
Soulframe NDAs are lifted now, so can say I enjoyed the time I put into that. It is a really visually striking game, but way slower paced than warframe.Keep out the look-out for Soulframe.
Oh, looks interesting. I’ll keep an eye out.
Back on my Elite: Dangerous bullshit again with the latest update. Power play overhaul adds some new stuff to do and a reason to do it, while removing a lot of the downsides.
Damn, I have yet to play a good space game…
Looks scornfully at Starfield.
While I enjoy it and have several thousand hours logged at this point, I hesitate to actively recommend it. I feel like it’s on an upswing, but it’s still flawed. A lot of mechanics are opaque, the learning curve is a sheer cliff face, and there’s about a decade of cruft, bugs, workarounds and technical debt. That said, most of the updates since Odyssey have been a net improvement IMO, and the community is, for the most part, actually really welcoming and supportive.
Ah, fair enough.
I’ll keep this all in mind.
I played Elite Dangerous a lot. Its tough to get into but i feel like the economy is much better now. Like when i first started making money was a pain but now they’ve added a few new ways to do it that arent as grindy. I do exploration mostly so its a space flight simulator where i just go land on random planeta and moons and visit pretty places to see the views. Never done combat much so i cant comment on it but it does exist and has a big following.
There’s a new one, right? Or am I thinking of the old game from the late 1990s to early 2000s?
Elite Dangerous is newer its like a full simulation of the milky way and has a big background simulation its an MMO kinda but i play in single player mode lol.
I should also play No Man’s Sky but I don’t know if it’s truly just a “cozy” space sim where you can just do stuff without objective.
Replaying Sniper Elite 5 (again)
About to start Dishonored (again) after getting a free copy from AmazonPlayed Dishonored 2 before going back to the first one again?
I’m returning to Baldur’s Gate 3 after a long break. I made it to the third act months ago then set it aside.
Last month didn’t play anything but was playing Factorio before that. I was trying to build a 1k SPM mega base before the new expansion dropped but didn’t get close. Was too much of a learning curve scaling up a rail block base with my own blueprints and I tried to switch to it too early so most of my time was getting production back up with the new base build. Learned a lot though. Enough changed with the 2.0 update it’s not worth trying to continue my save.
I’ll probably pick up the expansion and dive into it again after I finish BG3. Unless I play through BG3 again as a sorcerer which I just might do. My monk is fun but I’ve gravitated toward spellcasters in RPGs the past several years for some reason.
You should finish Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s great. And yeah, I guess Paradox finally updated Factorio, but what about the new one?
The Paradox published factory builder is Foundry, which is more of a satisfactory style first person joint. Wube makes Factorio I believe.
I’m not sure which new one you mean, sorry. Factorio got a big 2.0 update but also its first expansion. I believe they’re planning on making a new game next in a different genre.
Yeah, just realized that that’s the Space Age one.
