The slow and steady climb to 3.0 culminates in the most modernized version of GIMP yet.
Still faster than wayland standardization lol
Frrr
Why are 50% of the words in this article, covering 20 years of work, about making svgs of icons?
Terrible.
Haven’t watched it yet, but DMD has a number of vids covering this, from plugin compatibility to features. Here’s the RC1 vid: https://youtu.be/nLjlgHemaco
Bring out the GIMP
Mr Wallace will make you regret that.

Gimp Is Maybe Photoshop
No GIMP.
Pronounced “Jimp”
the more unused whitespace a tool menu has, the better the UX guy! /s
Heh. I understand that all the UX people to join the GnuIMP project have died of shock…
They gimp’d along for 20 years but finally arrived. [badum tiss]
Pity about the cringey name.
It’s an acronym: GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).
yeah but it apparently has some disgusting meaning that I always forget as a non-native english user
Seems more like a backronym to me, they could’ve picked something better.
Dunno why you’re being downvoted. It’s very obviously deliberately chosen to make 12 year olds giggle.
Like GNU Linux Image Enhancement Manager
There was a fork with a different name. It bombed.
Well you don’t fork a project just to rename it, that’s not why it would have bombed.
The Glimpse Editor project shut down because there weren’t enough contributors, and the founder didn’t have enough time to do everything.

…and yeah it wasn’t just a rename, their github readme suggests they were making UX, accessibility, settings, and plugin changes to make it “enterprise ready” (not sure on the specific details of that though).

Glimpse is a much better name, though.
It really is.
Yeah.
The project name embodies several of the worst aspects of the FOSS community, and none of the best.
It’s a shared embarrassment, by association, to many of us.
