Mr Pounce is a classy lookin’ fella
I’m sorry for your loss, he’s definitely worthy of internet fame.
It’s actually “Pouce” (pronounced like puss). It’s french for thumb, he was name like that by the first owner’s (my sister) kid, because of obvious reasons.

That’s super cute, kids and naming pets is a winning combination. RIP to your little buddy.
That’s funny to most Dutch people. For multiple reasons.
First ‘Tom Poes’ (pronounced pouce) is a Dutch Comic character and a cat, as ‘poes’ means cat (and vagina, but that’s another matter).
But also a tompouce is probably the most iconic Dutch pastry, which was named after Admiraal Tom Pouce, the stage name of Jan Hannema a once famous little person performer from the 19th century.
What strikes me now is that the ‘thumb’ meaning in this stage name was an allusion to his shortness, like Tom Thumb.

My deepest condolences. He was truly magnificent. Losing a pet is akin to losing a child. I’m currently in the process of saying goodbye to my oldest, it’s likely a matter of days. But I wouldn’t have it any other way; the joy they bring into our lives far outshines the grief when we have to let them go.
Listen… if we made Mr. Pouce famous, then we’d have to make every cat famous.
And we should.
