That’s called stealing. And that book they claim to have read says that’s a no no.

Also your library will just buy more copies. Which means your taxes will go up to pay for the missing books.

Lolno. Libraries are getting funds cut. They will not buy a new copy, it will become unavailable, then those that would go to a library to borrow it no longer can, so they find it online, and the right can say “see? Nobody goes to libraries anyways”.

Our libraries send an invoice to the people who have unpaid dues.

And they can’t loan anything before the dues have been paid.

Might even go to collections if you’re enough of an ass

Our libraries have mostly moved away from this model. I may have some details mixed up but I believe there was a study done that showed books were more likely to be returned without the late fee than with a fee.

Basically people will feel ashamed or embarrassed to return a book so late (or maybe in extreme cases cannot easily afford the couple dollars) so they end up stealing the book and never returning it. So now the library has to buy a $10 book because someone couldn’t pay the $5 late fee. It just makes more sense in the long run to let people bring the book back late without penalty vs not bring it back at all in fear of a fee.

I wonder what would happen if a athiest group started removing religious books from that same library and publicizing it? We know these chumps wont be able to see any similarity between the two acts.

I would be just as pissed if it was atheist doing something like this. That isn’t likely. As annoying as a atheist can be in your life even if you are not religious they do tend to be critical thinkers.

          press X for doubt

I think it boils down to the person and what society thinks is ok. Groupthink is rarely a positive.

This a church who is urging it’s members to break a commandment. Something that if you break it you go hell.

If their god was teal he lable this church a work of the devil.

Breaking a commandment doesn’t send you to hell, it’s just a ding on your record which you can wipe clean infinitely by asking for forgiveness.

The library should just publish a list of cardholders that haven’t returned their books

I will hand my credit card number over to the charity that gives 5 new copies of a book to any library that has one stolen.

As ways to block people from getting it out of the library, I prefer this to other methods. Remember, libraries are usually funded based on circulation numbers - so to the members of this church, I say please dive on the public library and borrow a lot of books and media, and make them have it get marked as delinquent and get written off so they can buy more stuff.

So, they’re doing a great thing to the library!
