I’m perma-banned on Reddit for accidental ban evasion (I don’t really want to get into it), so I came here as an alternative. But there isnt NEARLY as many communities or members as there are on reddit. But I cant go back there cus they perma banned me, that was 2 years ago when they first banned me.

Lemmy just isn’t the same, and I wish I could go back to Reddit, but that site is arguably more nerve-wracking to be on than anything else. What can I do?? What other alternatives do I have?

And no I cant really just not use reddit cus I primarily used it to ask questions about specific stuff or if I wanted someones opinion about a product or some thing. Reddit is often more useful than google is.

idk im just kinda upset and at a fuckin loss. What kinda website perma bans a user for life and logs all their info just to make sure they don’t come back?!

Why are y’all downvoting the mfer? This is a “rant” community, and they’re ranting. It’s a worthwhile perspective to hear. Sure, they should spend their time making this a better place instead of pining over the corporate cesspool that’s written them off, but that’s a perspective you can upvote in comments.

Lots of things, but how about one of them is to start help building this place into a good replacement for what you miss about reddit!

You don’t have to start big, or ever get big, just poke here and there, and wherever feels natural to you!

Also metafilter is cool too I guess.

Whats Metafilter? Also I dunno if I have the leadership skills or the time to start an entire community here and run it :( I can barely do that with my discord communities. I think its just the history that Reddit has times the volume of people there. I dont wanna end up like that Turtle guy moderating and owning all the communities lmao

Their permabans are not permanent. Use VPN. Or just wait a month or two. AND DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THE SAME SUBREDDITS. At least do not do it right from the start. That’s important.

      I dont believe I have the time or the gumtion to do that. I can barely manage my own time well as is, adding a lemmy community on top of that wouldnt help me ;w;

I hate to pull the “oh someone else should do it” excuse but I am VERY MUCH NOT THE PERSON that can do it 😭

The same sort of website that permabans all accounts from a user except the one he uses to moderate some small comm subreddit. Fuck Reddit and fuck everything Reddit.

And, like, I get you didn’t like the Fediverse. Yes, it could use a bit more activity. …but to be frank, it’s probably the best alternative to Reddit you’ll find. And sorry for my uncalled advice, but: if that isn’t enough then at least don’t go back to Reddit, that place is a shithole and it’ll make you feel like shit.

(I actually got a few specific questions answered here in the Fediverse. Orchid identification, spider identification, a bunch of Linux questions. In Reddit getting the actual info is always a chore, that place is too noisy for my tastes.)

Yeah true. Reddit always just leaves me feeling mad. I just miss the NOVELTY of it. And thats why its hard for me to switch to alternatives (Commet over Discord, Lemmy over Reddit) Im such a sucker for gimmicks, I truly am. I like that I could dress up my lil reddit snoo and that it had R/place. It was fun, the alteratives, because they are acting as a replacement to an already established website, they dont have as many gimmicks if that makes sense. I dunno if thats for the best or not tho.

It does make sense: the alternatives are newer than Reddit, with relatively small dev teams, so the devs are still implementing core functionality and there’s no dev time for the gimmicks.

That said, r/place has a Fediverse equivalent: !canvas@toast.ooo , it’s annual and around July. It’s in a Lemmy instance but people can join it even from PieFed, Mastodon, and others. No snoo equivalent, though.

all of fedi is pretty small, and that holds a lot of people back from it. best thing you can do is just promote it.

You can’t find your way around a permaban?

Create a new account with a work profile on your phone.

    Or a browser (different/new browser)

    Or use a VPN

    Etc etc.

Do it while connected to a coffee shop

Change the router IP at home
