In the original Batman comics, Alfred didn’t raise Batman after his parents were killed; it was actually Bruce’s uncle, who was a wealthy aristocrat. Alfred joined the Batman cast years later, after Dick Grayson/Robin first appeared.

For a Batman TV show, what if this actually happens: Bruce’s parents are killed, he lives with his uncle, then leaves at 18 and comes back five years later. His uncle hires Alfred Pennyworth as the Wayne Manor house manager, and he’s 10 years older than Bruce. So instead of a father/son dynamic, it’s more of a brotherly or best-friend type of relationship.

Now, if you aren’t a Batman fan, you might not care—but this question is mainly for Batman fans: would you want to see something like this?

“Would you want to see an adaptation of an influential era of Batman comics unrestricted by a TV-14 rating?”

Good grief fellow Batman fan, you should really be nerding out in the lemmy DC communities if you haven’t found them yet.

I’m a fan of Batman, but the whole Batman concept doesn’t work anymore.

Bruce Wayne is the 1%. Batman is working with the police. In the 40s, the police were thought of as “the good guys”. Today, I’d rather be stuck in a dark ally with the Joker than the cops.

To me the whole premise no longer plays. I’d like to see a more adult Batman adeptation which plays into modern viewpoints.

Superman just did this brilliantly in the movie last summer. Batman could still be the same. HE thinks he’s the good guy. But he’s still Bruce Wayne, the 1%.

The cops would act as actual cops do. Corrupt. Cover for each other. Essentially the only legal gang in gotham, but just that. A gang.

Gordon can be an elder cop. The good one amongst the corruption of the other cops. Despite being chief of police, he still doesn’t have the ability to control the whole force.

And each of the major villians control their own gang. Except for Bane, who’s basically just a 1 man army. And Killer Croc, who’s basically just a mutant. Not evil per se, but just an animal. Just like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park. Not a villian, but still a deadly threat if encountered.

Sorry, I like Alfred as an old man mentor/caretaker roll. I always thought they should have made a movie where Alfred was dying, and it emotionally distracts Bruce from being Batman. Thus causing the city opinion to turn heavily against Batman. Thinking he’s just letting chaos happen and working with the corrupt cops.

I’m gonna recommend Moon Knight as the best version of Batman without the bootlicking.

      ✔️ Gadgets
      ✔️ Martial arts
      ✔️ Detective work
      ✔️ Mental issues
      ✔️ Fear tactics
❌ Billionaire (He made his millions working as a mercenary, which he’s now trying to atone for)
❌ Ableism (No “criminally insane” BS, and the best runs explore accurate mental illness)
❌ Copaganda (The cops have standing orders to arrest Moon Knight, so if he wants to work with the cops, he has to dress up as Mr Knight)
      ❌ Child endangerment
      ❌ Gay jokes about Robin

I know the premise of Absolute Batman is that Bruce Wayne is a middle-class civil engineer, and sometimes struggles to stay awake at his day job because he’s exhausted from being Batman. And the Joker is a 1%er. Not sure his the cops are portrayed.

Absolute Universe is incredible. Sometimes altered versions of well known characters doesn’t sit right, but the Absolute Universe pushed that so far that its its own beautiful thing. Really enjoying all of those comics, not just Batman. Wonder Woman is particularly cool.

Absolute Batman is poor as fuck, but he can afford a mining dump truck, fuel for it, the supplies to customize it, a secure place to hide it, and the list goes on.

Also if Martha is alive and if hes working class then why be Batman in the first place?

And why are criminals afraid of this dude?
