Thought this was @PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee for a second
No reason at all. It just sounded better in my head
Fair enough then. These are the criticisms I’ve heard from people on the right though. I just wanted some clarification. Thanks!
Is that what you wanted me to say? Look man, I’m not a Conservative nor am i even American. Like i said, I’ve just been following the US election, and have been engaging in media from both sides. It’s possible that i have been “tricked” by the Republicans, but i was simply asking a question while both making some assumptions and stating a fact. And with the fracking:
Here’s her saying she is 100% in favour of banning fracking.
Here’s her backtracking on that
So clearly your claim “Harris did not make her personal position on fracking clear…” is false.
Also, where did you get the “everybody lies, so Trump’s not so bad i guess” from in my post. If you go back, and put on your reading glasses to see what i wrote, you’ll see that i was asking why people bring up Kamala’s “lies” when Trump is even worse of a liar.
This is a perspective i have never seen before. While his methods still seem underhanded. It at least provides some logical basis as to why people still support Trump in spite of his lies
I wasn’t laundering any false premises. I was only stating the fact that she has lied. I don’t doubt this because she IS a politician after all. The examples i used are things which the Republicans have brought up as “lies” which i acknowledge, and i assumed everyone also acknowledged. Of course, you’re free to disagree but I wasn’t trying to launder any false premises here.
You are right. I get too obsessed with objectivity sometimes, but it seems like there’s no such thing as the right choice only the one that’s best for me
I never really cared for politics until very recently, so i always thought its discourse would be grounded in logic and not logical fallacies. So i am quite shocked.
It’s so widespread though which is what baffles me. Even political commentators i used to follow when i was still a young conservative make arguments like this. Surely they can’t all be this dumb.
The decoy effect is one of my favourites. It occurs when your preference for one of two options changes dramatically when a third, similar but less attractive option is added into the mix.
For example, in Dan Ariely’s book Predictably Irrational was a true case used by The Economist magazine. The subscription screen presented three options:
Web subscription - US $59.00. One-year subscription to Economist.com. Includes online access to all articles from The Economist since 1997
Print subscription - US $125.00. One-year subscription to the print edition of The Economist
Print & web subscription - US $125.00. One-year subscription to the print edition of The Economist and online access to all articles from The Economist since 1997.
Given these choices, 16% of the students in the experiment conducted by Ariely chose the first option, 0% chose the middle option, and 84% chose the third option. Even though nobody picked the second option, when he removed that option the result was the inverse: 68% of the students picked the online-only option, and 32% chose the print and web option.
The idea is that you’d spend the money on the option you think is “a steal” even though you had no previous plans of purchasing it.
This is a moot point. Tax increases solve this issue
Well that’s a more specific sentiment than the one that was expressed by OP. If you take issue with the actions that they indulge in to accrue their wealth, then I’d be right there standing beside you. OP seemed to only criticise the wealth which is a neotenous view on the topic.
Only if the mods didn’t share the same sentiments. Low-effort political posts in non-political communities have been and always will be a staple in lemmy. You have to understand that it is the same people who left Reddit with these sentiments and similar behaviour that are now here doing the same. Quite an unfortunate reality really
We need more valiant soldiers like you fighting these clowns🫡
Fair enough. Hating billionaires however, doesn’t help with those goals
A lot of these guys in the comments lack basic economic understanding. People also make these comments while ignoring other investments these so-called “demons” make. The truth is there is no government in a capitalist society without the efforts of private bourgeois. We should instead advocate for higher taxes rather than whatever impractical and sensationalist solutions we may think of.
When you block someone, all the subsequent comments made to that person’s comment are also unable to be viewed.
This is comedy gold 🤣. Things get political so fast on here
Appreciate the recommendations man. I’ll be sure to check em out
