TikTok is just Vine but in a time where every child has a phone capable of making their own videos, as well as AI generated bullshit. There’s some genuinely good content there, but you have to wade through an ocean of shit to find it.

But, I mean… The same could be said of YouTube, too.

Mm, I dunno. I think the crux of Vine was mostly overwhelmingly positive content from no demographic in particular, whereas Tiktok seems to mostly be negative content with a more focused push on upper class Gen Z users

I can’t remember seeing a single nerdy, black suburban anime kid tiktok (which were huge on Vine lol)

It’s a cartoon series that does nursery rhyme songs, largely to the same 4 melodies with different words. Kids get mesmerized by it for whatever reason, very little to be learned from it. It’s what you use to park your kid so you can get dinner out of the oven without your child burning themself.

They literally test it by parking children in front of it and optimising for the least amount of time spent looking away from the screen. As a result the kids get overstimulated and executive function gets damaged. Specifically, it’s a really bad YouTube nursery rhyme cartoon for toddlers. It’s heavily addictive but totally vapid. Not everything young kids watch needs to be edutainment, but Cocomelon is obnoxious brainrot that kids love and adults hate.

Caillou is actually made be people who are at least trying to do something useful. Coconelon is made by people with a meth dealer mentality.

The only reference I have for it is the Pupa saying it a bunch in Solar Opposites.

I do love how they handled kicking Justin Roland off the show. Way better than Rick and Morty handled it.

For real, what makes this website of shitty memes, anime porn, and Linux circlejerks any better than short form media?

I’m not a big proponent of tiktok, but posting on Lemmy with an heir air of superiority is beyond laughable.

Short form videos are objectively bottom tier. Sprinkle on a state of the art algorithm to maximize addicition and engagement bait, and yeah, it’s worse in every way.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
