More than anything I’m depressed by the precedent that this sets for the world on attitude and actions. He literally attacked and abused his way to the top. And a majority of Americans support it. Holy fuck.
Looking at the bright side:
-no more vaccines (never liked needles anyway) -no more fluoride in the water (who likes nice teeth anyway, plus you can get fakes installed) -never need to vote for president again (think about how much time that’ll save) -no jan 6th revolt in 2025 (maybe they will just for fun though, who knows) -perhaps Trump can fill the remaining seats of the supreme court and get a properly conservative suite of justices -Elon Musk will be our super-cool tech daddy
- No more environment (hate the outside anyway)
- No more Ukraine (the weather in Kyiv sucks and I have a gluten allergy who needs grain anyway)
- More refugees into Europe (yeah Europe is totally prepared for that and won’t cause more fascists to win European elections)
- No more environment
That won’t be a problem. America will simply be towed outside the environment.
If only the front would fall off…
Yeah fascists in Europe turned out great the last time
Hey, maybe we in Europe will get to be the ones making a deal with the devil (Stalin then, Xi now) to get a red flag flying in the fascist capitol.
Better start working for some social points. I love surveillance cameras everywhere.
Lol we have Chinese police taking people away already. I’d also love chat control to go through. No fair that it’s only the US and the Chinese who get to dragnet the world, I want locally sourced fair trade repression. Gotta love this world.
That said, China has a lot of shit going on, but a credit system is not one of them. For example, they are actively trying to tamp down social (and physical) mobility. It’s a shit place right now, maybe it always was.
The only country I know that has a credit points system that decides a lot of the opportunities you get in life is the US.
About
62 million fewer votes for Trump than last election, which is good, but it doesn’t matter since there are1814 million fewer votes for Harris than for Biden last election! Wher were those1814 million people? It can’t be that all of them are in the “I don’t vote for genocide” camp. What happened? It’s never been clearer that not voting gives the election to the Republicans.
Edit: Updated the numbers as more votes were counted, but the point stands.
Maybe sexism and racism are not isolated to the right wing, possibly a lot more in the centre than assumed. Maybe just enough in certain demos to affect turnout.
It’s weird because I even noticed this among liberals. The presidential candidates are always referred to by last name. But both times a woman tried to run, people referred to her as her first name whether you are conservative or liberal or what have you. I have found it a bit disrespectful tbh, and all sides have been guilty of this. The US will never elect a female president, let alone a female president of color. It’s bizarre.
People did it with Obama too, he was “Barack” to some.
The US is a much more chauvinistic nation than many but it’s also by far and away the most violent nation in the industrialized world. The two are definitely linked.
maybe it’s just because that’s the more memorable/unique parts of their name?
trump/biden is much more distinctive than donald/joe
clinton could refer to both bill or hillary
obama/kamala is more memorable than barack/harris (though maybe for obama that’s just because I’ve heard ‘obama’ so many times)I’m not saying that’s definitely not true, just that there might be other reasons why
I suppose I could give it to you for Hillary Clinton because it could have been confusing wrt Bill. But with Harris, I’m not buying it. Both “Barack” and “Obama” are equally distinct to me. We have never had a president Harris before, so it’s plenty distinct enough. It’s not as though presidential candidates always have wildly distinct and uncommon names.
If Biden hadn’t insisted on running despite his declining mental state, she wouldn’t have won a primary, not very likely anyway. She is uninspiring and she carries the baggage of the struggling/non-existent middle class, housing market, 12 million border crossings etc.
I don’t know what the final turnout figures will be, but if it is a lower turnout, I can think of a few:
- 2020 was the easiest year to mail in a ballot ever, and it got harder again as states reinstated various difficulties with mail in ballots.
- So many people didn’t have to go into work in 2020, they had more flexibility to vote however they needed to do it.
The honest truth is that the Harris/Walz campaign did not motivate their voter base. People were talking about doing fucking vote swaps with people in swing states because they didn’t want to vote for Harris.
I have no idea what the fuck the whole “courting the right” angle was, but it failed. Maybe it was the stance on Gaza, maybe it was the stance on immigration, maybe it was just feeling spurned by the party for caring about alot of issues like trans rights Harris left to the wayside while campaigning, but it didn’t motivate people to cut through the bullshit and go to the polls.
Meanwhile, Trump stayed in the news 24/7, constantly doubling down on his rhetoric, and his voters mostly all turned out again.
Not all have been counted yet
They just called Wisconsin for Trump which puts him over 270.
Yeah but the point was about what turnout was. We know who won but it’s a bit early to discuss relative turnout compared to 2020. It is likely lower, but the specifics will be a while.
There’s no question turnout is lower. Both Trump and Harris received fewer votes than Trump and Biden last time around. Neither of them are inspiring. Yeah Trump has a base, but a lot of Republicans don’t like him but some still voted for him. Harris was uninspiring and had a lot of baggage from the last 3 and 1/2 years. She would not have won a primary in my opinion, if Biden hadn’t insisted on going for a second term initially.
It’s not just the “I don’t vote for genocide” camp; there’s also the “can’t this fucker at least campaign properly” camp and the “I’m not voting for this right wing nonsense” camp, among others. Harris was just that bad at this.
So you’re saying people decided to avoid voting for right wing nonsense, and let Donald “Dictator on Day One” Trump win instead?
Exactly. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make, but that is exactly what happened.
It’s easier to blame the voters than to blame the democrats for a miserable campaign
I blame both. The democrat party and the ones who didn’t vote.

I have no idea what you are saying, I can’t read this.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine explicitly called to boycott both candidates.
“Oh no, 18 million people stopped voting the Dems! Surely it’s the voter’s fault, not democrats being genocidal ghouls who can’t offer a shred of progressiveness!”

No
Agreed.
When Trump was first elected, it made me realize how stupid most of the US is. The results of this election were not surprising, I even linked to the sort of self-serving articles that preceded just before Hillary-Trump’s elections to people who were doing the same in this election. At least in this election, it’s sort of like Israel, they are leaving no doubt about who they support. I don’t even care if Kamala gets the popular vote, most criticize the electoral college word only and refuse to consider gerrymandering as electoral fraud, leading to it occurring in greater and newer ways this election.
Why are americans so stupid and yet manage to export so much smart stuff from tech to podcasts to scientists. Is it some sort of dystopia where 1% rules, 20% live in a bubble and 79% are just brain dead idiots?
1-America imports smart people from all over the world.
2-Technical smarts and don’t-vote-for-fascism smarts are different.
Yeah but basically everyone I follow from podcasters to tech developers are all non-idiots and I assume their following are also mostly non-idiots. Where are all of these idiots hiding? The contrast between US soft power export and actual average americans is colossal.
You’re looking at and following your information bubble.
This is by design.
Yeah but almost every American I meet here traveling in SEA or Europe is a perfectly reasonable person.
Dunno I just am in such disbelief that my world experience doesn’t match reality at all. I even consider myself pretty well traveled with 20 years of experience traveling around the globe though admittedly I’ve never been to the USA yet and I fear I might not get to see Yellowstone or Big Sur ever at this point or do I even want to?
Kinda sucks to be a fan of US now ngl.
The people you meet while travelling are not the average people. The average American never travels to another state, let alone to other continents… Same is true for many people in many countries: Asians visiting Europe are top % of population in wealth and brains. It’s dissapointing and depressing but fox probably gives you a more true picture of average Americans than Americans you meet while travelling.
Yes I’m perfectly familiar with “survivors bias” but never seen it so extreme.
The more conservative you are, the less likely you are to travel. The less likely you are to be open to experiencing “them”.
When I went back to my high school reunion, I tried reconnecting with an old buddy of mine. I found it a little odd that his life seemed exactly the same as in high school, but eventually he admitted that he had never been more than about 50 miles from the town we grew up in. Never left the state, much less the country. Never left the surrounding rural cluster of towns. Never flew. Not even a road trip to a coast, amusement park or city. No changes in food from what he grew up with. No people different from him. What the everliving fuck?
If you go to the States as a tourist the chances are that you will be just fine, it’s the living there that increasingly sucks.
Joe Rogan has the biggest podcast in the English speaking world. He has been consistently pro-Trump.
He has not been consistently pro Trump, he has harshly criticized Trump in the past. But now he’s an ass-kisser like Elon. Let’s see how well that works out for them. If they can keep daddy Trump happy at the expense of everyone else.
They’re populists.
They see which way a crowd is running and jump in front, shouting “follow me!”
He has endorsed Trump for three elections running.
The podcasters you follow are not the mainstream in the US. Probably the majority of mainstream podcasters targeting men, were pro Trump in one way or the other. Either by inviting guests that were pro-Trump, or inviting quacks that are telling men that the left is taking away their masculinity.
Why do people from Europe go and build monuments and luxury in Saudi Arabia?
Money. Same answer in the US.
The US is an oligarchy, as attested to by this Oxford study. To answer your question, mostly yes, hence places like “Silicon Valley” and institutions like the electoral college.
Interesting that was written in 2014… Before it was obvious it had all just gone to shit
It just wasn’t obvious to you.
An election was stolen in broad fucking daylight in 2000. That was the canary in the coal mine on election interference.
Yes.
Then there’s us smart ones who see what’s going on, but we’re outnumbered by idiots.
I fear you may have hit the nail on the head

Gerrymandering is clearly electoral fraud, but
- it’s not black and white. There’s no clear line between fraud and good
- the people benefiting the fraud are the ones in control of it
- gerrymandering does not affect presidential or senate elections
Yep, we did it. We are Homer Simpson. D’Oh
This has gotta be fraud, there’s just no way America would choose a convicted felon over a woman… right?
- There’s no way any number of women would choose someone promising to curtail their medical rights.
- There’s no way any non-white would choose someone so racist
- There’s no way any immigrant would choose someone scapegoating their culture and promising to deport them even if they are citizens
- There’s no way anyone who has listened to his speeches would choose a gibberish idiot
- There’s no way anyone who witnessed the mess last time around would want to repeat it
- There’s no way anyone who older person would choose a known real estate grifter
- There’s no way a parent would choose anyone threatening their child’s future
I’m sure we could go on, but I just read an article that Trump did better than expected with every demographic except college educated women. How ?
I am fucking gutted, I am so sad and angry and I don’t know what to do. I am overall a happy and positive person and believe in humanity but this win feels like it’s stripping me of a piece of that and I hate that! I hate that I feel so much hate right now, it’s exactly what I preach against, yet here I am. I can’t believe this is happening
That’s how I felt here in the UK when I woke up to see the majority voted for Brexit. Before that I thought people can’t be that dumb. Apparently they can.
Ikr… I don’t even own a car, I walk to work, take the MRT everywhere etc. and the Americans are electing a president who says “Drill baby, drill”. I’m not an American, but it will affect us all… I live in Taiwan now and I’m fucking afraid of what his presidency will do to the geopolitical balance with China.
While I have no idea how to handle China’s ever bigger presence on the world stage, I know the spiteful antagonism is not it.
I feel as you. I wanted to believe we’re better than this.
I m an atheist but I pray for you , it will be only 4 years , hope you stay safe.
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I’m essentially an atheist too (I don’t even give it a label for myself because god and religion are just not a part of my life, and I don’t need them to be). And yet somehow I feel I have exponentially more compassion and value of morality than a large swath of these people voting in a monster, acting under the guise of being “good Christians”. Maybe I’m delusional, maybe I’m the one missing something, I don’t know. I still believe in humanity, but man I’m just sad right now. Anywho, I’ll take all the prayers and positive energy for everyone that I can get right now, so thank you
Trump is not going to create a better economy. We’re gonna go into a recession and he’s going to blame it on democrats and COVID restrictions.
He’s going to increase immigration, lower wages due to cheap labor, and cause wages to go down. He said this and the retards that live in rural America think he’s going to benefit them. He’s going to reduce the power of Unions.
It’s clown world.
It it bad that I think that’s a best case scenario? Things aren’t looking good.
We’re going back to child labor in factories and brood mares barefoot and pregnant. Trans and brown folks are going to have a real bad time. I’m a white dude and even I’m afraid of what’s going to happen
Yet what they’ll remember is the stock market skyrocketed
Clown country
I think that one guy with the folder “Memes if Donald Trump wins” is gonna have to bust them out.
Fuck. I hope Canada has some open slots for immigrants.
Canada has an increasing anti immigrant sentiment right now. They’ve announced big cut backs to the number of immigrants allowed. Furthermore, moving to another country is difficult and expensive. It’s not a realistic option for most people.
Tbh most of the ire aimed at immigrants here is specifically targeted to either Indian or Ukrainian migrants. Infrastructure is genuinely buckling under the weight of migration but it’s a case of too little investment and not entirely the result of immigration.
I can say as a white, western immigrant to Canada that I’ve never had anyone complain about my immigration however I’ve had locals complain about immigration to me forgetting that I am indeed one of the immies.
They are angry at Ukrainians? Shiiiiit…
Not in my experience, no. It doesn’t seem to be an issue with any particular group, although some people may be more vocal about Indian immigrants in particular - for what seems to be racially motivated reasons in my opinion.
The main complaint is that we’ve allowed too many people all at once and we now face issues with the lack of housing availability and affordability, the state of the economy, overpopulation and the potential strain on public resources.
I’ll marry one of ya’s
Until a trumper does something fucked up and the border gets closed off.
Seconded
Ok just hurry up and get your citizenship so you can help us vote against the guy who’s trying to be like Trump, thnx.
Sucks here but welcome
Their country has a severe housing crisis.
Canada will soon be electing a conservative government.

Kinda douchey to be a dick towards those who fought against it, don’t you think?

What do you mean “you pricks”? I am not American. I am German. And I think you are having a panic attack.
Not arguing against the things you wrote possibly happening. Hell, I think it will be even worse than that.
But these people also didn’t want any of this. Let’s not be awful against those who need a blanket and a hug, please?
American here. I would totally take you up on that hug there, mein bruder. This feels pretty damn awful. :(
I’m still holding out some kinda vague hope for the “final numbers” but…right now I’m not alone in feeling a little lost and confused at what we’re about to go through and what the heck life will look like in the near future.
A lot of previous elections felt like empty hype and doomsaying but this one feels like we’re gonna feel it immediately.
God help us all.
I’m in one of the bluest cities in one of the bluest states…I’ve voted in every major and local election since I was old enough, I’ve protested, I’ve tried to get people to vote, I’ve marched, I’ve tried to kindly change minds through patience…I’ve been doing it since high school and I don’t know what else I can personally do. If people hit the streets, I’ll be there. But I’m with you, it’s like no matter what I personally do things are burning around me and this election proves there’s much more hate in this world than I’d hoped. I still think there’s light in everyone, but I can understand why people are angry with us… we’re dropping the ball hard as a country. meanwhile I’ll just be sitting here in the middle of the night, wide awake but exhausted, hugging my dog because we have no control and I know half the voters are okay with taking away my rights. Sending hopeful feelings for you to wherever else in the country you are.
I really appreciate this. I’m stuck awake and exhausted too. My house all voted and did what we could, here in NV, but I hate that nagging feeling that it wasn’t enough.
I’m praying to maintain that fervor, that raging fire to believe in good and fortify against coming evil… But it’s one crisis out of our hands to the next, and I’m just so tired. :(
I find myself returning more and more often to the ever and increasingly relevant:
Ephesians 6:12-17
Eph 6:12-18 KJV For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Sending hopeful feelings for you to wherever else in the country you are.
You too, friend. We’re still here. We’ll get through this one day at a time.
Congrats, you now have much worse than a dem administration when it comes to that shithole israel
Nothing will fundamentally change in the Israel policy, it’s just that now people will start caring because it’s orange man doing it instead of genocide Joe
those who fought against it
Did they do more than just vote?
Fellow Canadian here and I don’t like being overly harsh with my criticisms … but I’m with you on this.
I’m a native too, a trump administration would happily see us and our people systematically “removed”
I n voted for Harris but agree with you. We need to stay and clean up our mess. Because were are we going run to. America doesn’t just affect America but whole world. We need to fight not run.
You should build a big wall and make them pay for it!
I’m in that country and can’t disagree. I was just paraphrasing the line from the Joker movie to a friend of mine,“We’re going to get exactly what we deserve.”
The people fleeing it are exactly the people you’d want to see.
Actually, given the senseless over-generalization, you might prefer seeing your spiritual brothers, the republicans.

There’s no such thing as an undecided voter.
They’ve either decided, or decided to do something bad and don’t want you to judge them.
As if the world hasn’t collectively had its head up it’s ass recently…
Jesus Christ. Locking down this massive shit show.
They’ve done it before and they’ll fucking do it again.
All these young new potential voters! A fresh wave of idiot!
