I feel this. I did really poorly in school (ADHD), didn’t go to college, and my last IQ test yielded only marginally above average results (and for all I know I just guessed lucky or am good at pattern recognition). But despite feeling like I’m still a naive and immature idiot with no idea what he’s doing, the more my wife and I associate with the parents of other kids in my daughter’s class, the more we realize we’re quite possibly the only fucking adults in the room.
I drink and eat edibles daily. Ive killed many brain cells on this floating space miracle of life. But still everyday I see the dumbest decisions by our “leaders”.
In my town they just approved a data center in a place plagued by droughts. Were so fucked. Especially given the Super El Niño.
Its gonna fuck up a lot of wildlife.
Man, I felt that one.
Pass that shit, ‘Squatch, you ain’t the only one.
Fuckin’ Bogartfoot over here, am I right?
I blame most of it on the colonization of human attention.
Ray Bradbury was writing scary stories about big screen TVs and ear buds in the 1950s.
Its scary honestly.
Don’t mistake stubbornness for ignorance. Many people are too proud to ever be wrong.
they just look at you, like the memes
Nah, I’m wrong all the time.
Nice paradox there, mr. Nocturnal
Just bcz you’re right all the time doesn’t mean I can’t be wrong all the time!
In the words of J. R. “Bob” Dobbs, “You know how dumb the average guy is? Well, by definition, half of ‘em are even dumber than that”
not how averages work but probs cuz there’s a lot of people to bakance out… ig.
How smart would you bet on the median guy being?
Judging from another post about an engineer that blasted through a test out of spite, got put into some training and had a print with the test showing his score of 80, which was “smarter than 90%”, that makes me think the average is sitting somewhere close to 70
I’m willing to bet it’s 100 IQ
In the US its 98
Smart people know that “I don’t understand” is much more likely than “they don’t make sense”.
“Other people are stupid” is a flattering explanation to the incurious mind.

Not really, one of my little brothers has a learning disability, and the other isn’t that far behind. Most of my family (including my mother), aren’t that intelligent, and literally can’t reason a lot of stuff. It isn’t that they just aren’t intellectually curious. They literally couldn’t even if they wanted too.
Explained a lot for me when I left my tiny little hometown and realized I just didn’t fit in with the rednecks there.
Are you smart enough to assert this?
I always love the coments on posts like this, you can always tell exactly who you’d want at the function.

Assuming other people are stupid is a sign of un-curiosity imo. There’s usually a reason behind other people’s action. Not necessarily a good reason, but a reason
Very often the reason is that they are stupid. I work helping teams with specific technologies, meeting a new team basically every week.
Sometimes strange behavior is caused by very good reasons that are not obvious at first glance, but very often is just people being dumb and generally bad at their job / willfully ignorant. And I’m talking about objective facts / best practices, not even political opinions.
Yes, but I think it’s worth to figure out if someone is bad at their job because they put no effort, or because they were taught wrong in school, or because they have weird obsessions etc.
Yes, absolutely.
This makes no sense. Some people are stupid. Are you saying there are no stupid people? Because unless you are your statement makes no sense. And if you are that makes me question your stupidity.
I don’t think there are no stupid people. I think stupidity is more nuanced than just “this person is stupid”. It’s always worth to think about why someone made a choice, even if it seems stupid. Maybe you realize it’s not so stupid after all. Or maybe you understand why the person made a stupid choice, and the deeper flaws that led to it.
I like your take and agree, but I’ll say you can assess the rationale and experiences that lead some people to think like they do and understand them… and still conclude that it’s stupid. Note I say that “it’s “ stupid referring to the reasoning, not necessarily the person. I know people who are smart enough or competent in some ways, but they arrive at really stupid conclusions and do or choose stupid things.
Yes this is exactly what I mean
