Touch typers are immune.
Honestly this is a great way to figure out the next round of layoffs.
For touch types change J and H.
There is often a tactile cue.
😠
J-k would get me. J-h puts my hands too close and I’ll notice. There’s enough space to the right that I’ll happily be super confused when I start tu[]omg ;ole tjos
I admit, I do use the little nubbins occasionally.
I would definitively notice immediately. It would just feel… wrong
Pure evil
Jokes on you, I don’t use home row.
Oh my god I’m so dumb. I was going to say aren’t touch typers the only ones in danger? And had to think several times before I realized.
… As if this remaps the keys…
And I’m
- a touch typer
- with a mechanical keyboard
- and a custom layout
- that I remapped in firmware and software for my laptop keys
You mean innume
You mean you neam immune
You neam you mean innume
They don’t have to be.
My roommate once got a keyboard with all blank key caps.
In order to punish his hubris I remapped m and n in the windows registry when he left his computer unlocked.
Good times.
Always loved the description for people who use the keyboard and still visually look for the keys …
SEARCH AND DESTROY
hunt and peck
The key is to not only do this, but also compile this quick autohotkey script to an exe, hide it on their computer, and set it to run at startup:
#NoTrayIcon
m::n
n::mThat way it’ll fuck with touch typers. And when they look down to confirm that something’s wrong, it won’t look wrong. It’ll drive them nuts!
Set it to startup only on April 1st
Non-destructice hijinks were highly encouraged at my first job. It was a way to encourage people to remember to lock up their computers when they stepped away.
So mouse button settings were often reversed, hotkeys were mapped, desktop backgrounds were modified, and basically every other non-destructive computer prank was pulled.
I worked in a Nac office. Everyome had am idemtical lookimg bluetooth ‘nagic’ nouse.
Ramdonly swappimg a few aroumd was always a great ‘ice-breaker’ for the begimming of a stressful day!
I remember it was a common prank in my office, for coworkers that didn’t lock their workstations, to set their homepage to hampster-dance.
At a LAN party we once messed with a friend’s desktop background. He had a picture of himself and a girlfriend in what I assume was his dorm room as his background. We wanted to take the poster in the background and photoshop it to something funny. Someone had a bizarre picture of a bunch of dudes in Ninja Turtle masks. One of them was holding some chick in a skirt upside down and I think holding a fist against her panties. That photo was so bizarre it sticks in my mind.
I have no idea if he ever realized it. I felt bad afterward when I found out he was MIA at the LAN Party because of an unpleasant medical issue…
My favorite was screenshotting the screen then moving their icons and taskbar to a second monitor that was not plugged in.
You can also toggle icons off.
Open a lot of windows and screenshot it for the new background picture. Was always funny to watch people desperately trying to close all the windows.
My favorite was to take a screenshot of the desktop and set it as the background. Then put all of the icons into a folder. Most people I left the folder on the desktop. The IT guys, the folder was then hidden.
You are the reason I use ls and cd instead of a foss file manager.
If you do this, remember to change the keyboard layout to match.

Should’ve done the S and T keys also
Nomtser?
i did that to my boss in one my previous jobs. guess why my career there ended lmao
They accidentally fired you and promoted nybuttmolie
Fucking genius OP 🤣
I had the “I” and “L” mixed up on my keyboard for years after I did a thorough cleaning.
Nomster made me lol
I can’t deny it, I’m a bit of a nomster
Oh and z and y please.
Clockwise or counterclockwise?
That would do nothing to me. I switch those dozens of times every day.
You should add some azerty to your qwertz.
There was that time when I was in France, wanted to login into something and needed some Czech characters for my password. When I tried googling them so I could copy/paste, I realised the keyboard was azerty and just gave up.
I always switched the G and the H, but to each their own
If people need to look at their keyboard to type, they should not have an office job, lol.
And everyone should understand basic science
But they don’t, do they?
What does that have to do with anything? My point is that being competent in typing is generally a prerequisite for any office job. Really weird that this is such a controversial take.
I’m saying it’s nice to think about how people could be better…
But office workers absolutely do not all know how to touch type. When you find yourself working at an office, your typing speed tends to get faster, but if you don’t already know how to touch type you just peck faster
It’s why I’m so militant about my young relatives learning it. It’s not that hard to learn, but you have to learn it before you actually need it or you never will
How do you actually learn it? I always assumed it just comes naturally after typing enough.
Nope, you sit down and learn it.
If you wanted to learn, I would find a typing game and keep playing until you can hit any key without looking. If you still weren’t learning, I’d put paper over your hands so you couldn’t look down and cheat
So if you want this skill, find a typing game and don’t cheat. It’s that simple… It doesn’t even take that long, maybe 10 hours total? Maybe even less
I mean I don’t intend to learn it, I type 140 wpm lol. I just don’t remember ever having to sit down for 10 hours
Well… I didn’t mean straight. You play a typing game for 20 minutes occasionally, honestly you could probably just do that every day for a week and pick it up
And while you are proving my point perfectly, there’s advantages if you were to put in a little time… You make less typos and get better at power user features if you learn the positions
